Grammar comment 15-2Prefixing verbs of motion

по - denotes ‘setting out’

при - denotes ‘arrival’ or ‘return

Adding these prefixes to verbs of motion such as идти, ехать, бежать, and нести (which are all imperfective) perfectivizes them.

Grammar comment 15-3Remember that B answers КУДА? when expressing motion

toward an inanimate noun, while K is used with animate nouns.

Откуда? - Where from?

Куда ты идёшь?

Where are you going?

Откуда ты идёшь?

Where are you coming from?

Grammar comment 15-3We must choose which preposition to use when expressing ‘from’ according to animacy.

ИЗ/С + genitive case- means ‘from (something)’ОТ + genitive case - means ‘from (someone)’

just as:

В /НА + accusative- means ‘to (something)’К+ dative means ‘to (someone)’
