By using the AERCON technicalmanual, you have made a deci-sion to consider the most inno-vative building material avail-able in today’s market. Thecombination of fire resistance, thermal efficiency, cost effec-tiveness, and environmentalqualities of AERCON cannot besurpassed by any other build-ing product.

Construction demands are everchanging, requiring buildingsystems to be versatile, effi-cient and cost effective.AERCON offers this in a variety

of systems that can be utilizedin many applications. AERCONproduces non-load bearing ver-tical and horizontal exteriorwall panels, load bearing verti-cal panels, and floor and roofpanels. AERCON also pro-duces a significant number ofblock products in a multitudeof combinations of thickness, height, length and StrengthClass. Review the summary ofproducts in the OverviewSection to determine whichAERCON system will best suityour needs.

I - Introduction

AERCON is the name of thecompany and the fully integratedbuilding system of AutoclavedAerated Concrete (AAC) panelsand block, perfect for commer-cial, industrial, educational, pub-lic and residential projects.

AERCON Florida’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility islocated in Haines City, Florida. The 100,000 square foot facilityis designed to efficiently pro-duce block and engineered pan-els for rail or truck transportthroughout the United States.

AAC was developed by aSwedish architect, and waspatented in 1924. The architectwas looking for a buildingmaterial that had the propertiesof wood - good thermal insula-tion, solid structure, easy towork with and handle - butwithout the disadvantages ofcombustibility, decay and ter-mite damage. At that time therewere only small, heavy buildingblocks with poor insulationproperties. He succeeded inproducing a highly cellular, lightweight material fromquartzite sand, lime and water.

These raw materials can befound in almost unlimitedquantities throughout theworld. They are processedwith cement and a rising agentto provide a building materialwith a large number of airpores - aerated concrete. Andit is precisely these pores, inaddition to the solid structureof calcium silicate hydrates, which give AERCON its excep-tional product properties: fireresistant/non-combustible,superior thermal insulation, excellent acoustic insulation, lightweight, termite and pestresistant, ease of workabilityand handling, universal appli-cation, non-allergenic, and effi-cient construction.

Environmentally friendly andenergy-conserving, AERCONmeets all the requirements ofour modern age. Absolutely nopollutants or hazardous wastesare generated in the processand there is no waste of pre-cious raw materials. PureAERCON, not containing anyforeign materials, can be recy-cled into other useful products.

Even the production methodconserves energy since steamcuring is carried out at highpressures and thermal energy isrecovered and reused for maxi-mum efficiency. Productiontrimmings can also be fullyrecycled, again makingAERCON a highly efficient andenvironmentally compatiblebuilding material.

B. What is AERCON?

AERCON offers strong advan-tages over conventional buildingmaterials because of its excep-tional product properties andease of construction. AERCON’sexcellent strength makes it suit-able for both load bearing andnon-load bearing structures, and perfect for all types of appli-

cations. Although AAC is rela-tively new to the U.S., it hasbeen a favored building materialfor over 70 years throughoutEurope and Asia, and in manycountries throughout the world.

C. What Gives AERCON the Competitive Edge?

I - Introduction

06/03 / I-4

AERCON is available in severaldifferent load bearing and non-load bearing forms:

• Large blocks with handholdswhich can be quickly andeasily placed with thin bedmortar

• Lightweight wall partitions

• Lintels

• Large reinforced panels for floors and roofs

• Load bearing wall panels

Blocks and panels are availablewith tongue and groove jointsfor easy and sure connection. They can be used in single andmulti-story buildings and areideal for residential, commercial, educational, industrial and pub-lic buildings.

D. Applications

Public Facilities

AERCON wall and floor panels were used in the construction of this$4 million, 84-suite hotel expansion.

Load bearing vertical wall panels were chosen for this beautifulCentral Florida Church.

10” AERCON block was used to build this bank building.

This office building used AERCON load bearing wall panels and floorpanels in conjunction with structural steel framing.

Added public safety was oneof the main benefits achievedwhen choosing AERCON for

these buildings.

Commercial / Industrial Facilities

AERCON block was used to build this ultra-modern concrete paverplant facility.

AERCON panels are perfect for this non-load bearing claddingapplication where the panels are attached to a steel structure.

Needing climate-controlled space for sensitive electrical equipmentstorage, this warehouse owner chose AERCON for its superior thermal insulation.

A telecommunications company chose AERCON’s energy effi-cient wall panels for several Communication EquipmentBuildings in order to lower their operating costs.

This unique Industrial Application utilizes wallpanels to build mushroom tunnels, proving that theAERCON product has unlimited uses.

Savings from the speed of installationand energy efficiency were key

decision factors in choosing AERCONfor these projects.

Residential / Multifamily

This $23 million, 245,000-sq. ft. Residence Hall Complex using AERCONpanels includes seven residence hall buildings and five community buildings.

The sound absorption qualities of AERCON allows the two-familyoccupants of this townhouse maximum privacy in a small space.

AERCON was chosen for this residence hall project in Central Florida due to its excellent features and benefits: fire resistance, energyefficiency and acoustical insulation.

AERCON products were chosen to build thisprivate residence, giving the developer, contractor, and homeowner a multitude of benefits over conventional products.

Tenants of these AERCON structureshave the comfort of living in a fire

resistant, thermal efficient and environmentally friendly building.

Schools

AERCON panels were chosen by this privateChristian school primarily for the speed of installa-tion. The installation of AERCON is much faster thanconventional construction allowing an acceleratedcompletion schedule.

This full middle school campus project of AERCON chose non-load bearing vertical wall panels for the project exterior and block for theinterior, maximizing safety, energy efficiency, and sound absorption.

Originally designed for concrete masonry units, but easily converted to the use ofAERCON block.

Many variations of educational facilities havebeen constructed utilizing AERCON products. This facility used AERCON wall and roof panels tocreate a Modular unit. These units are assembledquickly, are cost effective and are a "permanentfix" to the problem of overcrowded schools.

Over the last decade, school construction hashad considerable growth. In order to meet thegrowth needs, several contractors have turnedto AERCON for time and cost savings as well

as the many other great product benefits.

I - Introduction

The short-term and long-term benefits of AERCON systems are realized by owners, developers, designers andcontractors alike. The unsurpassed benefits are achieved by the exceptional material properties and constructionmethods that are associated with the established AERCON approach to building.

AERCON’s 4-hour fire rating was perfect for this college dormitoryproject, satisfying the most stringent building code requirements.

AERCON is ideal for firechase and shaft wall projects.Save time and money withless labor and material costs, fewer inspections and fastercompletion time.

AERCON helps prevent the spread offire to adjoining rooms and buildingsand never emits toxic gases or vapors

when exposed to fire.
