High Point University Introduces: The New School of Art & Design
Spring 2012
This project entailed taking a building in the center of High
Point, NC and completely renovating it to be High Point
University’s New School of Art & Design. This incorporated research, branding, interviewing, designing,
and writing out codes and contracts. My design was
chosen as High Point University’s top 5 candidates to be presented to
the city council.

High Point University’s Wrenn Admissions Building was not
functional for potential coming students. Faculty and staff were not supplied with the proper equipment
necessary for an extraordinary experience while visiting High Point.
The new traditional accents of the building combined with the open floor
plan and office arrangements will make Wrenn a great first impression for incoming students and hopefully
not their last!

Phillips Stair Re-Design Fall 2010

Existing Floor Plan Final Floor Plan
High Point University’s Phillips Hall was looking for a new style! The original design of the stairs did not have an easy traffic flow for hurrying students and faculty. This project involved keeping the traditional style of the stairs and re-designing them to be both functional and practical. The stairs now welcome anyone who enters Phillips Hall with open arms and a much more
open floor plan for seating and steady flow throughout the space.

Gothic Style Corridor Detail
The Las Vegas Hotel was needing a new look! The original boring interior was not very inviting to its
customers. The new renovation with purple and gold accents now exhibits the facade and style that it should. The gothic architecture combined with the lighting and
color now gives the sense of a Gothic Style interior.

Section detail of kitchen island
The Jones family was looking an open floor plan for them and their dog, Tucker. They were wishing to renovate
and have more seating without paying extravagant amounts of money. Mrs. Jones was looking for more
cabinet space because she loves to cook, while Mr. Jones was hoping for a space where he could do taxes and
paperwork. This new transitional design meets all of the Jones’ needs and turned their dull, cramped kitchen into
a place for food and entertainment.
Croqui Project Fall 2010
8
For this project, each student had to create their own croqui that could later be turned into a textile
and applied to any piece of furniture that they saw fit. The Global Oasis design as shown above was a modern design that would be applied to a contemporary wing chair. The combination of
circles, diamonds, and arcs leaves many different ways of viewing this piece.

Residential Living Room Upfit Fall 2009

The Burke Household was looking for an elegant living space that was both functional and aesthetic. The traditional, classic chandelier that
now hangs in their living room helps to tie in the elegant window
treatments. The simple attention to detail helps to turn this house into a
home.

“Capture the Moment”
The Stevens Household was looking for a total re-model of their dull house. In order to add color and liven up this space, cool blues, yellows and greens were used to make this house highly aesthetic. The traditional and
contemporary styles help to transition through each room smoothly. Dark mahogany woods and great attention to detail helped to turn this house into a home.

“Capture the Moment” The Stevens had great potential for their living room and kitchen areas.
With big open windows and accessibility to light, their living room is now transformed into a functional and
aesthetic space where family and friends can interact. Light blues and tans are a subtle touch to liven up this
space. The outside patio is now designed as a functional space where friends and family can gather. This
space can conviently be used on a nice day as an extra room. The waterproof fabric and furniture are designed to be
left outside year-round.

To Whom It May Concern: My endorsement of Chantal Hayes for a creative position is qualified only by my regret that we will no longer have her support at High Point Market. We are a non-profit and rely on talented students to help us get our message out to fellow designers. Many students are unable to step up to the challenge of needing to take their own initiative all day to place themselves where they can be most effective, and to be proactive in engaging designers and encouraging them to come out to our events. Chantal has been extremely reliable and effective in creatively communicating with others and willingly accepting whatever task we have asked of her. She also worked well with the entire team of staff and other volunteers. She is extremely bright and enthusiastic, and I know she will do well in whatever she undertakes.
