As president of Farm Sanctuary, the nation’s leading farm-animal protection organization, Gene Baur campaigns to raise awareness about the negative consequences of industrialized factory farming and our cheap food system. He has conducted hundreds of visits to farms and slaughterhouses to document conditions, and his photos and videos exposing factory-farming cruelty have been aired nationally and internationally, educating millions. His best-selling book, Farm Sanctuary: Changing Hearts and Minds About Animals and Food, is a thought-provoking investigation of the ethical questions involved in producing beef, poultry, pork, milk, and eggs—and what each of us can do to promote compassion and help stop the systematic mistreatment of the 10 billion farm animals who are exploited for food in the US every year.
