What is changing? Changes to the Shire’s Waste and Recycling Transfer Stations are soon to be implemented. These changes will see a variation from current operations with Alexandra Bridge and Rosa Brook stations being staffed and opened on a regular basis, and the implementation of new seasonal (summer/ winter) opening hours at Cowaramup and Kudardup stations. To accommodate the changes the Shire’s primary waste and recycling facility at Davis Road will operate with extended weekend hours. When will it change? The new transfer station model will be implemented as of Monday 1 December 2014 under summer operating hours. Summer opening hours will run for 6 months of the year from October to April and winter opening times from April to October on an annual basis. Seasonal hours will not apply to Rosa Brook and Alexandra Bridge, which will remain open on the allotted day year round. What is the timetable? As of Monday 1 December 2014 the following opening times will apply: Cowaramup Transfer Station Summer: 1 December 2014 – 15 April 2015: Wednesdays and Saturdays 8am – 4pm Winter: 16 April – 13 October 2015: Saturdays 8am – 4pm Kudardup Transfer Station Summer: 1 December 2014 – 15 April 2015: Wednesdays and Sundays 8am – 4pm Winter: 16 April – 13 October 2015: Sundays 8am – 4pm Rosa Brook Transfer Station This station will now be staffed and open year round on Sundays from 9am – 2pm. Alexandra Bridge Transfer Station This station will now be staffed and open year round on Saturdays from 9am – 2pm. Davis Road Waste and Recycling Facility Weekend opening hours of the Davis Road Waste and Recycling Facility have been extended until 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays year round to service the needs of residents whom cannot access the transfer stations during the allotted opening times or need to dispose of waste that cannot be accepted at the Transfer Stations. This will ensure that a disposal location is always available. Why is it changing? Council resolved at its meeting of 25 June 2014 to change the format of current service delivery for the Shire’s transfer stations. The need to have efficient waste services is critical to reducing further pressure for rate rises to manage waste within the region. What are the charges? The changes to Rosa Brook and Alexandra Bridge Transfer stations mean that gate fees now apply for disposal of waste, similar to all other facilities in the Shire. This ensures that rural residents still receive a high level of service but in a more efficient and equitable manner which supports sustainable waste management practices into the future. Fees and charges for waste disposal are endorsed by the Council each year and are provided online. cubic metre volume. This equates to $6 per 240L green wheelie bin of waste disposed of at the facility. Transfer stations do not currently have eftpos or credit card facilities so you must bring cash to use the facility.

What can I take to the Transfer Stations? The Transfer stations are for disposal of food, kitchen and household residential waste only. They are set up for rural residents without access to a kerbside collection to dispose of waste equivalent to what would normally be disposed of in a green ‘wheelie’ bin as part of a kerbside collection. In addition to your normal domestic waste disposal the following household recyclables will be received at the transfer stations free of charge -• Cardboard and mixed paper e.g. Phone books,

newspapers, office paper, envelopes, magazines, glossy brochures, cardboard, pizza boxes (clean and dry), egg cartons, wrapping paper, leaflets (please flatten where possible and remove any packaging contents such as Styrofoam and plastics)

• Plastic drink bottles with symbol codes 1 and 2 only e.g. Plastic milk and juice bottles, soft drink bottles, detergent bottles (please remove caps and rinse bottles and containers)

• Aluminium cans• Steel cans (please rinse containers)• Glass bottles and scrap steel (less than 2 cubic

metre volumes per disposal) may be disposed of at Cowaramup and Kudardup Transfer Stations only.

• Green waste (less than 2 cubic metre volume) will be accepted at Cowaramup and Kudardup for a fee.

What can’t I take to the Transfer Stations?Any other bulky waste such as mattresses, furniture, white goods, TVs, electronic goods, metals, wood, bricks/rubble, batteries, tyres or other waste will not be accepted at the transfer stations and will need to be taken to the Davis Road Waste Facility.Disposal of waste from any commercial operations is prohibited at the transfer stations and must be taken directly to the Davis Road Waste Facility. What waste and recycling will the Davis Road Waste Facility accept? The Davis Road Waste Facility is the primary waste disposal facility within the Shire. In addition to providing disposal options for domestic and

commercial waste, the facility is also able to accept the following materials, separated into type for recycling or processing - • Concrete/bricks/building rubble (tin, metal and

wood removed where possible) • Green waste (light pruning green waste – must

be free of noxious weeds and contaminants)• Metals – mixed scrap metals• Whitegoods (costs apply to fridges that require

degassing or proof of certification should be provided for fridges that have been degassed)

• Car batteries • Used motor oil - residential amounts• Glass bottles • Steel cans• Gas bottles (require bleeding and removal of the

valve stems prior to acceptance)• Car tyres

Can I still use my Domestic Waste Facility Pass?Yes, the Domestic Waste Facility Pass can be used at the transfer stations for those residents who receive the pass. Currently rateable rural properties located outside of the kerbside domestic collection areas are provided with a Domestic Waste Facility Pass entitling free disposal of the equivalent to a wheelie bin in volume. Waste must be delivered in garbage bags/garbage bins. Household waste considered to not meet the criteria will be charged in accordance with the Shire fees and charges schedule displayed at the Shire facility, or redirected to the Davis Road Facility. Changes to the current format of the Domestic Waste Facility Pass have been endorsed at the Council meeting of 25 June 2014. In order to improve the equity between the provision of waste services and costs to rural and urban ratepayers, the pass will be transitioned over the next 3 years to a new voucher system.

Where can I find more information on the changes? The minutes from the 25 June 2014 Ordinary Meeting of Council details background information including information on the community waste survey. The minutes are available on the Shire’s website as is further advice on opening times and general waste management advice. Information is also available by phoning the Shire on 9780 5255.
