Commissioner’s Welcome
On behalf of the CIF Los Angeles City Section, I would like to welcome all the families, friends, and
supporters to the 2015 Spring Championships. I wish to congratulate the athletes and coaches for their
accomplishments and success they have achieved this year. The sacrifices and obstacles they have
overcome through their hard work and perseverance have allowed these teams to experience the joy of
victory. The parents and teachers should be recognized for their encouragement, mentorship and support
which have served as a catalyst for the efforts and determination that propelled the individuals and teams
that are here today.
The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) adopts the philosophy that all athletic programs are based on
the development of character, good sportsmanship and designed with an educational foundation and values
that provide students with a greater opportunity for academic achievement. As a result, the students
competing today have demonstrated the same effort and determination with their academic
accomplishments that they have demonstrated with their athletic achievements. Today, you are witnessing
the leaders of tomorrow; their efforts are to be saluted while understanding that this is only one step of many
as they strive to achieve their academic, athletic, and life goals.
The CIF operating principles establish the essential elements of character and ethics in sports. They’re an
embodiment of the concept of sportsmanship through the six core principles of Pursuing Victory with Honor.
It is with these principles and values that we establish that sport is not only the pursuit of excellence in the
arena of sport, but also the pursuit of excellence in one’s life. We salute the coaches, teachers, and school
administrators as they rely on these values as a framework for advocating, modeling, and teaching these
principles.
I would like to recognize the game officials who were selected based on their performance throughout the
season by demonstrating a consistent standard of excellence. We ask that spectators to show respect for
the official’s ability and appreciate their willingness to continually improve their skills to maintain a safe and
fair playing field. I encourage everyone to cheer on their players and teams while maintaining respectful to
the dignity for the game. I ask that you also remain respectful of the family environment and reframe from
any abusive behaviors and language.
I wish to recognize the State CIF and Los Angeles City Section partners and sponsors who have continued to
provide a resource to help meet our Sections goals of offering the best in championship exposure: Farmers
Insurance, the CIF presenting sponsor; Sports Authority, a CIF sponsor; Subway, a CIF sponsor; the Marines,
a CIF sponsor; Time Warner Cable, the CIF and Los Angeles City Section broadcast and webcast partner; the
California Correctional Peace Officers Association (CCPOA), a CIF sponsor; C & L Jackets, the official
championship patch sponsor; Team Outfitters, the championship apparel sponsor of the Los Angeles City
Section; and all of the Section ball sponsors: Diamond, the official baseball & softball ball sponsor; Molten,
the official volleyball ball sponsor; and Wilson, the official tennis ball sponsor. We salute you for your
generosity and support of the CIF Los Angeles City Section and interscholastic athletics.
Finally, I wish to recognize those that make the spring championships possible, our sport coordinators who
have organized the various sport committees to bring this event to its fruition: Vicky Lagos, track & field;
Dick Dornan, volleyball & softball; Abel Navar, baseball; Tom Jones, swimming & diving; Rick Prizant, tennis;
and Alexa Berg, lacrosse. Along with their efforts, there are many others who have contributed their time
and expertise: the coach’s advisory committees from each sport have donated many hours to organize the
season. Lastly, our Board of Managers and League Commissioners who have all assisted with their time,
effort, and diligence throughout the season. Thank you!
Once again, I thank you the fan for your support. Now let’s enjoy the competition and support our teams!
