Precision Drive and Control’s Jacobson receives highly-coveted Meilahn Award
Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin
named Gene Jacobson, PDC Electrical Contractors,
Monroe, with the organization's most prestigious award.
Jacobson received the Wes Meilahn Award at the Annual
Projects of Distinction Awards Banquet in Wisconsin
Dells on Thursday, February 15. "Gene is passionate
about the trades and the construction industry and pro-
motes the trades extremely well with individuals looking
for careers in construction," said John Mielke, president
of ABC of Wisconsin. "He also has grit and tenacity like
so many of our members and applies this to everything
he does," Mielke added.
Jacobson has served on many ABC committees, includ-
ing the Madison Apprenticeship Advisory Committee,
Budget and Finance Committee and the Legislative
Committee. He served on the ABC of Wisconsin Board of
Directors and served as chair of the Board. He currently
serves on the Chapter Apprenticeship Committee and
State Bureau of Apprenticeship Council. His company
participates in the ABC Safety Training Evaluation Pro-
cess for world-class safety and is an ABC Accredited
Quality Contractor. He and his staff regularly participate
in ABC events, including national and chapter conven-
tions, Apprenticeship Graduation Banquets, Projects of
Distinction and Skill Competition.
Wes Meilahn, a founding father of the Wisconsin ABC
Chapter, was chairman in 1974. He set the standard for
members who show tenacity, understanding, love, and
service toward the association.

The YMCA Search
Committee began a
nationwide search pro-
cess in November 2017
with the support of Y-
USA. The search yield-
ed 20 candidates of
which the selection
committee ultimately narrowed to four
strong candidates that were scheduled for
the final interview in February. The com-
mittee noted the passion that Trent pre-
sented when talking about the mission of
the YMCA. His education, experience and
most recent position as Sports Director at
the Rock County YMCA have brought him
to this next step in his career. He presents
himself as a strategic thinker with vision
and new ideas. His high standards and
strong values, work ethic and a supportive
family have positioned him for success as
Executive Director.
It is no secret that Trent has strong ties in
Green County. Partnerships and relation-
ships within Green County are what
strengthen our community. The YMCA
Board is confident that Trent will be a lead-
er that strengthens these relationships and
builds new partnerships as the YMCA Pro-
gram Directors and YMCA Board work to-
gether to promote the mission of the
YMCA.
Trent’s closing statement to the Search Committee impressed us all, “The YMCA is so much more to me than just a facility. This is where I grew up learning how to
play on a team, made friends, and devel-oped healthy habits. I want this YMCA to be successful so that my community can enjoy all that it has to offer for years to come. I want the people of Green County to love it as much as I do and see all of its potential and offerings.”
In his first week, Henning becomes the lead in the “Fueling Our Future” capitol campaign.

Brands, has issued a Matching Gift Chal-
lenge. Colony Brands has committed to a
matching donation of $400,000 when
$200,000 of community support is raised
by April 30th, 2018. Meeting this fundrais-
ing goal will provide $600,000 to achieve
our 3 main objectives.

Establish a maintenance fund
Complete urgent repairs and improve
the facility
These steps will nourish and grow the
deep roots our YMCA has within our com-
munity for years to come. With that said,
you may be wondering "How can I help?"
By donating to Fueling Our Future, your
monetary gift or pledge will help us achieve
our $200,000 fundraising goal. Reaching
this $200,000 level will activate the
$400,000 donation from Colony Brands.

2018 Annual Meeting
Peppercorn Banquets was a wonderful setting for our 2018 Annual Meeting and Din-ner. Monroe Chamber of Commerce members and their guests gathered for social hour and dinner and a lively program. It was a chance for new faces to meet and old friends and colleagues to reconnect and share what is new in their business and per-sonal lives.
The program began with introductions of new board members and officers and recog-nition og the Ambassadors group which does so much for the Chamber of Commerce. They participate in all the events and see that networking and promotion of the Cham-ber is part of their day to day activity. Outgoing Board President, Al Rufer recognized Tory Tullis of Colony Brands and Rory Maurer of Associated Bank. Both served as Ambassadors for over 5 years and with changing responsibilities in their careers were
unable to continue, their dedication to the Chamber of Commerce will always be present even if they can no longer be part of the Ambassadors.
Additionally, Gary Olson who was unable to attend, was recognized for his service to the Board of Directors and the Monroe Chamber. Gary retired from Minhas Craft Brewery late 2017 and has relocated. We will him well in his next phase in life.
Al Rufer also provided a year in review highlighting some of the major accomplishments. The 8th Street reconstruction project meetings and communications was integral to keeping businesses and the community aware of the project time lines.
Tim Wolff was introduced as the 2018 Board President . He presented Al Rufer with the outgoing Board President Gavel Plaque and he received the Ceremonial Gavel. He spoke about what the Chamber can expect in the upcoming year. Focus-ing on educational programs, involvement and ensuring value in membership will be among the top priorities.
Executive Director, Melissa Even also shared some of the initiative that will be happening in 2018. Addressing some of the new aspects of this year’s Stateline Home and Business Expo and the inclusion of wine and beer vendors as well as the in-creased focus on retail sales during the event are expected to increase attendance and she encouraged businesses to re eval-uate participation in the Expo. A brief explanation of the School District of Monroe workforce initiative was discussed and full details will be available once details have been solidified.
The evening concluded with a lively presentation from the Monroe Theatre Guild Cabaret Players. A variety of skits, lightheartedly looked at the aspects of the business world. Thank to all that were able to attend and made this event possible. W e look forward to seeing you at the next great Chamber of Commerce Event.
