Now that we are well into the summer I hope you are able to take

some time off and get away from your normal work routine. My

experience with vacations is preparing to leave and making sure

everything is covered and then trying not to call in when I am actually

away. Making a list beforehand of things to be covered seems to work

well.

June was a month of several outdoor activities a couple of which were affected by

the weather. We were able to reschedule Chamber of Commerce night at the

Hounds for July 16th. We begin the month with Lisle’s Eyes to the Skies Festival.

If you haven’t already signed up to help on behalf of the Chamber please do so.

Remember the hours we earn go directly to our scholarship program. Lisle’s 4th of

July parade is downtown on Main St at 11am on Friday July 4th. It is followed by

and ice cream social which includes hot dogs presented by the Lisle Heritage

Society. Please don’t miss this enjoyable event. Lisle residents also get in free to

the festival from 12-3pm. Active military personnel and veterans with proof of

status get in free all day on July 4th.

Our annual Golf Outing is only three weeks away on July 22nd at 7 Bridges Golf

Club. If you haven’t already registered your foursome please note the price per

player went up on July 1st to $150. Even with this increase, the event is a great

value that includes golf including cart, box lunch and steak dinner, two free drink

tickets, special tee bag gift and opportunities for the silent auction and raffle. The

shotgun start is at 1pm so you can take care of work related business in the a.m.

and join us for the lunch and the outing in the afternoon.

The following day we have a special first time event at the DuPage County Fair.

Chamber of Commerce Day at the fair will begin with an opening ceremony

including presentation of the flag followed by networking and the opportunity to

visit the fair exhibits. That evening we have a Business after Hours at 5pm at the

very popular Evviva Bar and Eatery.

Finally, we finish the month with another Cruise Night on July 26th which will

include the expanded format from 6-10pm. The last two hours there will be a live

band. We thank Bill Kay Chevrolet for sponsoring the evening and the Village of

Lisle for the grant to support this perennial summer program.

See you at the summer fun times ahead!

This Social Security Event with Valerie Janke, CFP, a Financial Advisor with

Waddell & Reed, Inc. was held on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the Lisle Park Dis-

trict. Social Security is the country’s single largest Federal program and serves

as the sole means of support for many retirees. Interestingly enough, there is a

great deal of flexibility when it comes to optimizing your retirement needs. This presentation provided

tremendous insight regarding the oftentimes unexpected flexibility and choices about Social Security.

Kitty Murphy, a Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce member for over 9 years, currently

serves as President/Owner of The Nook. The Nook, located on Main Street in Lisle, is a

coffee, ice cream, candy, card/gift and yarn shoppe. It is a fun, safe, old-fashioned gathering

place for adults and children alike. Kitty’s main duty as President/Owner of the Nook is

oversight of the business. Kitty is new to the Ambassadors but has always been an active

Chamber member. She enjoys her time as an Ambassador because it has given her the

opportunity to communicate with other business members, get to know them personally, and encourage

them to come to events and take advantage of their Chamber membership. In addition to her involvement

as an Ambassador, Kitty currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors. Furthermore she has

participated on several Chamber committees including Downtown Business Council, Dinner Dance, and

5K/10K Race committees.

Kitty is a lifelong Lisle resident who attended St. Joan Elementary and Lisle High School. She has three

daughters, ages 30, 26, and 21 who have all gone through the Lisle School System as well. One of her

daughters is a successful business woman, another just graduated cum laude from law school, and the

third is working to become an Occupational Therapist. In addition to her daughters, she has three dogs

she considers her children as well. Finally, Kitty shares a favorite quote, “Nobody can make you feel

inferior, without your consent.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

Business After Hours was held on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. at The Museums at Lisle

Station Park. The Museum was created as a cooperative effort of the Lisle Park District, Lisle Heritage

Society and the Village of Lisle with the intention of establishing a home for the historic train depot.

This partnership aims to preserve Lisle’s heritage by focusing on continued development of historical

buildings, exhibits, and special programs.

The Museums at Lisle Station Park currently have a Banned in Chicago: Eight Decades of Film

Censorship in the Windy City exhibit which is set to run through Saturday, August 16, 2014. This

exhibit highlights the history behind film censorship in Chicago and provides insight on the types of

films that were being censored. For additional information about Museums at Lisle Station Park visit

their website at http://www.lisleparkdistrict.org/museum.htm or contact them at (630) 968-0499.

Business After Hours is one of the

many great ways to get the most out

of your Chamber membership. Not

only do these events provide the

opportunity to learn more about one

of your fellow Chamber members’

business, it is a great opportunity to

network with many different

members.
