As we gear up for the Holiday Season on Pleasure Island, we all took a few minutes to relax and have our November Business After Hours at Tangerine’s Caribbean Grill. Over lively conversations concerning Carolina Beach Town Hall shake-up, everyone enjoyed chicken wings, crab cakes and a bit of pasta along with our favorite beverages. We would like to thank Mandy, Nate and their staff for putting on the first Social ever at Tangerine’s!

After a few announcements, we went on to the ever-popular raffle and door prizes. First up as always, we had the 50/50 raffle which was won by Debi DiNatale. Tangerine’s graciously donated their 50% to the Red Cross

“Hurricane Sandy” Relief. Eliza Santos won the coveted Checkered Church Gift Bag. Dan of the New Hanover ABC Stores took home a beautiful bouquet of flowers from Island Florals by Roxanne. The final prize of the evening was won by Becky Coley—a sun-set print from Canvas Giclee Printing.com. Thank you Southern Digital Art.com for the photo memories!

Maddfish Grill was welcomed to the Island with a Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony and a very festive Grand Opening that was SRO!. Dan Wilcox, Chef Chris and his entire staff treated Chamber Members to a variety of tasty treats including pork sliders; shrimp, cucumber mandarin orange snacks as well as a variety of other hors d’ouvres. Live music as well as adult beverages were enjoyed by all. Stop on by and have a meal of some of the best food and atmosphere that this Island and surrounding area has to offer. Maddfish Grill is located at 1140A N. Lake Park Blvd. (across from CB Town Hall) and is open 7 days a week for Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner. Enjoy a few photo memories courtesy of Southern Digital Art.com.

Carolina Beach Babe is a full service Social Media Marketing company that delivers results by optimizing local Internet sites as well as Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter and custom designed Blogs. Carolina Beach Babe offers training and support for all current forms of Social Media presence.

Carolina Beach Babe (definition of Babe, Informal Sweetheart; dear. Used as a term of endearment) defines the combination of sales experience and a love of the Island with the desire to assist local businesses, in season and more importantly, off season.

Carolina Beach Babe is owned by Debi DiNatale, a resident of Carolina Beach for nearly 5 years, formerly from Upstate New York and relocated to Cary NC in 1997, purchased a home in Carolina Beach in 2008 and with her husband renovated it into a Beach Vacation destination that has hosted over 100 families, Debi and her husband Tom, moved to the Beach perma-nently in 2010.

With the experience of hosting vacationing families and their needs, plus 25 years of experience in Business to Business Sales and Marketing in the very competitive markets of computer and telecom sales, this seasoned professional draws from a “hunter” mentality when designing a Social Media campaign for her clients in this unique beach community. Carolina Beach Babe’s mission is to provide the business owners on the Island a local resource that understands the needs of our beautiful classic beach town that is as friendly and laid back as it is beautiful and relaxing.

Our visitors come for the day, weekend and their family vacations. With the help of Social Media Marketing, Debi helps her customers “get found” on the Internet and increase their off season business as well. A successful Social Media Presence will develop loyal fans, improve sales and grow business partnerships

When a visitor arrives at the Beach via the bridge, new and returning visitors who will use their Smart Phone’s and tablets to locate the resources that will satisfy their vacation needs. Our visitors want to deep sea fish, rent a kayak or just find a great seafood restaurant- and they are going to use their phones and tablets to find the resources that they need, using applica-tions like TripAdvisor to locate local businesses.

If you have not Googled your own business lately, you should. Monitoring your business presence on the web is critical to the competitive information delivered about your company, positive and negative.

Our beach visitors will refer to the advice of other consumers that have already experienced local businesses and read their reviews before deciding where to stay and where to eat and where to shop.

A 2012 study revealed that 83 percent of marketers believe that social media is important for their business, and more than nine in ten (92 percent) spend six or more hours online each week maintaining their presence on these channels. Depend on Carolina Beach Babe for advice, training or a full design and management of your social media effort. Ask for a free gap analysis today.

Spot light On Business—Clever Creations

Spotlight On Business—Carolina Beach Babe

Clever Creations is a decorating service offering hourly con-sultations to whole house renovations. Services include color selections, accessorizing, staging, up-holstery, specialty paint finishes, organizing. Nancy Reis, owner of Clever Creations is a resident here at

Carolina Beach. When I decided to start my decorating business part time in Charlotte in 1995, I decided to do it my way. I was unimpressed at the intimidating personalities of many decorators and the need to feel that you have to spend a lot of money to get the satisfying look a client desires for their home. Many of my clients have never used a decorator before because they felt it was too costly and intimidating to them. Once we have our initial phone conversation, they realize that many times a few hours of consultation can get them started in the right direction. I focus on the overall look that a client wants to achieve by first observing what they currently have in their

home, change things around a bit, then add items to enhance what they already have it their home. I also offer

organizing service including assisting clients with de-cluttering areas of their home or office. I was so aston-

ished when a husband of a client called me and thanked me for saving him $400,000! He called to say that af-

ter I rearranged his furniture, accessories, and organized his living and dining room, his wife no longer wanted

to move to a new house. She spends all her time in the living room and loves it. All it cost him was a few hours

of consultation and work….now that’s a bargain!

Redfern Designs owner, Kristen Redmond, recently moved to Carolina Beach after living in San Francisco for 20 years. After almost 10 years of doing business in the aggressive San Francisco Real Estate market Kristen is looking forward to bringing her knowledge to the Carolina Beach area. “I believe that readying a $200,000 condo for sale is as important as a $2,000,000. house. Profit is profit”

The primary focus of Redfern Designs is to work with property owners to maximize their revenue potential. Whether you are selling your property or simply want to refurbish an existing rental unit; Kristen and her team will work with the owner to determine the best return on investment.

Project Management or Consulting Services include anything from remodeling a bathroom, de-cluttering a room or a simple color consultation. The goal is to empower the owner as much as possible to make good financial decisions, and assist with managing the necessary service providers.

Web appeal is the new curb appeal. Redfern Designs works with their clients to ensure that a property is a standout in the crowd. If you are competing with dozens of similar properties then every online photo counts. Potential buyers/renters have to be able to “see” themselves living there, and that won’t happen with cluttered rooms and dark photos.

Redfern Designs works with the Real Estate Agent, Rental Agent or Seller to make sure everything sparkles for that first Open House.

“My clients appreciate your insight, skill and care, and most of all how you treated each of their homes as though they were your very own.” Brendon Kearney - Vanguard Properties, SF

A self admitted architecture nerd, Kristen is always happy to share her knowledge with clients. For most of us our home is our biggest financial asset, and the more you know the more you grow.

Call Kristen Redmond today for a complimentary consultation. cell: 415 - 990 - 8441 email: [email protected]

Message From The Chair

Happy Holidays Chamber Members and Friends They say time flies when you are having fun and here we are on the way to closing out yet another year here on Pleasure Island. That can only mean one thing….we must’ve had a lot of fun because this year has definitely flown by! Sure there were ups and downs, good times and bad, but all in all this year was AWESOME! It goes without saying that it takes a lot of planning, preparation and time to coordinate a year round calendar of events for the Island, not to mention the countless volunteers that assist in making these events flow smoothly. I want to extend a huge “Thank You” to everyone for coming together and sharing the vision that the Pleasure Island Cham-ber of Commerce has in providing good, quality events that the whole

family can enjoy! Although we are entering the last month of 2012, there are still a plenty of things going on for you to participate in. We still have the Island of Lights Christmas Parade and Flotilla, the Pleasure Is-land Chamber Cruise and all of the weekend events included in the 4

th Annual Christmas by the

Sea held at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk. And don’t forget the Island of Lights New Year’s Eve Celebration being held in Kure Beach. For a complete listing of all events, be sure to visit our web-site www.pleasureislandnc.org for more details. I would like to personally thank Gail, Greg and the Chamber Board of Directors for all of their hard

work and dedication to Pleasure Island this year. And on behalf of the Pleasure Island Chamber

of Commerce, we wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season!
