2019 Dates to Remember

If you’ve been out to Dunton Locks County Park, you may have noticed this dog waste station. A big thanks to those who agreed to the idea and invested in it.

Dunton Locks County Park is another wonderful nature spot only three miles from DL. Many times of the year Dunton Locks County Park is a choice for birders. In fact, it’s one of the 51 locations along the Pine to Prairie Birding Trail. See MNBirdTrail.com.

With paths in the wooded park and two lakes, it makes for an ideal location to take a walk with your dog. If you forgot to bring along disposal bags for dog waste, now you only need to get them from this dispenser and toss them into the garbage.

If you have friends or fam-

ily coming this summer that want to visit some locations in the country in the Detroit Lakes area, consider these:

Bike or hike the trails at Detroit Mountain Spend a Saturday or Sunday at Shady Hol-low Flea Market Take the scenic route on Hwy 34 to Hwy 29 north to Tamarac Na-tional Wildlife Refuge

While at Tama-rac Refuge, check out the North Country National Scenic Trail Enjoy a walk in the woods at Sucker Creek and Upstream Sucker Creek Drive toward Vergas and stop at

Forest Edge Gallery to get your “art fix” and meander their wooded yard with a quaint pond and outdoor sculpture gardens

Ride bike out to the Detroit Lakes Wetland Management District on Tower Road, then hike their Prairie Marsh Trail

Challenge your mini-golfing skills at Rock ‘N Waters

Rent a boat or paddleboat at J & K Marina to take in the sights of Detroit Lake Then head into Detroit Lakes and continue your adventures! Cleone Stewart Tourism Director
