In Your Own Backyard Home and Pet Sitting – Pets as Christmas gifts require a lot of planning and consideration in comparison to other gifts. The First thing to consider when giving a pet is whether the recipient is ready (and willing) for a new pet! The Second tip for giving a pet as a Christmas gift involves choosing a suitable animal depending on where they live. Thirdly remember that not all pets & people are good matches when giving pets as Christmas gifts. Be prepared with an alternative arrangement. Finally when giving pets as Christmas gift remember that your first commitment is the pet. Providing a safe home where the pet receives good care is the first priority. When looking for a pet please check out our shelters first to see what they offer, there are many pets that have been placed there due to our economy that will make a wonderful pet. If you are traveling for the holidays, whether you will be gone for a few hours, a day, a week or longer, call me to care for your home and/or pets while you are away. I also care for your home with the same pride as you have for it, bring in the newspaper, mail and watering your plants. I wish you A Very Merry Christmas and I Thank You for sharing your pets with me! Call me Jo Ann Hughes @ 472-5970 and let's set up an appointment! Happy New Year TOO!! Counting For More - One Dollar Never Did So Much – Last year we kicked off for the first time ever a global “Beauty that Counts” Charitable campaign and it was a enormous success. The Company donated nearly $2 million from the 09 “Beauty that Counts” global sales to causes that change the lives of women and children around the world. In the United States, the donations helped sponsor the groundbreaking Break the Cycle DVD. With the purchase of a Gingerbread and/or Pink Passion lipstick, you will be helping again this year as we reach our goal to help even more women and children. Through December 15th, 2009, every lipstick you order (Gingerbread, Pink Passion) the company will donate $1 to the Mary Kay Foundation in it’s efforts to end domestic violence. As a Mary Kay Sales Director, I will match the donation with an additional $1 personal donation for each tube purchased from me. Mary Kay is truly much more than selling Lipstick, Mary Kay is changing lives of women across the globe one woman at a time. Call Patty at 765-985-9799 for more information on the Lipsticks to purchase, booking a PARTY WITH A PURPOSE or about having your own business to enrich other women’s lives. United Way 'needs your help'

United Way of Miami County

Second Annual Christmas Tree Drive

With Christmas a little more than a three weeks away, the United Way of Miami County sponsored its second annual Christmas tree drive. In an effort to spread some holiday cheer, the residents in Miami County donated a total of 32 artificial trees’. This is 14 more trees this year than the United Way gave away last year. If you would like to donate your artificial tree after Christmas for next years tree drive call the United Way at 765.473.4240 or drop by the office at 13 East Main Street. The (artificial) trees can be of any size. If people want to contribute ornaments or lights – that would be great too. People just need to be sure when they bring these in with all parts of the tree to give away. The United Way plans to distribute the trees again next year on December 2nd, 2010. Families wishing to be added to the tree recipient list should call the United Way office at (765)473-4240.

Million Can March

The Peru Tribune is currently accepting bags of aluminum cans to donate to the Miami County United Way. Those wanting to donate may choose which "team" to donate to. The 12 United Way charities are the teams competing and all proceeds from the event will be given directly to the United Way. Individuals that donation will have their names put into a hopper and a grand prize will be given to the lucky winner. There will also be a corporate challenge

The United Way of Miami County is on the brink to meet yet another goal, but they need the help of Miami County residents to achieve it. In the past two years, the United Way’s fundraising campaign has been closed by December 31. At this time last year, the United Way campaign was at 56.4% of goal. This year we’re currently ahead of that mark with 70% of this year’s $300,000 goal having been reached. With your help, the United Way campaign cabinet hopes to close out the campaign before the end of 2009. This year’s goal of $300,000 will prove to be a challenge but is very attainable. “After

knowing what state the economy is in, we feel this year’s goal is much more suitable than that of last year. Our volunteers will spend the rest of this month contacting businesses that indicated an interest in donating but have yet to do so,” Miser said. “We are projecting we can be close – it means we can make the goal, but it will take some additional effort.” Miser hopes to meet goal by December 31.” If you can’t give money, then your time is just as valuable. Anyone who wishes to give is encouraged to call the United Way office at (765) 473-4240 or mail your donation to the United Way office, 13 East Main Street, Peru IN 46970.
