10 Keys to Simplicity

1. Buy things for their usefulness rather than their status. a. Stop trying to impress people with your clothes and impress them with your life.

2. Reject anything that is producing an addiction in you. a. Refuse to be a slave to anything but God.

3. Develop a habit of giving things away. a. Masses of things that are not needed complicate life.

4. Refuse to be propagandized by the custodians of modern gadgetry. a. Most gadgets are built to break down and complicate are lives rather than

enhance them 5. Learn to enjoy things without owning them.

a. The idea of ownership creating control that leads to pleasure is an illusion 6. Develop a deeper appreciation for the creation

a. Embrace the truth that “the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof.” (Psalm 24:1)

7. Look with a healthy skepticism at all “buy now, pay later” schemes. a. We should use extreme caution before incurring any level of debt.

8. Obey Jesus’ instruction about plain, honest speech a. Honesty and integrity are to the distinguishing characteristics of your speech.

9. Reject anything that breeds the oppression of others a. Our life’s pursuits should be characterized by not oppressing someone else.

10. Shun anything that distracts you from seeking first the kingdom of God. a. The kingdom of God must always be the #1 priority in our lives.
