Theme: intellectual and Moral Education

1.Huck is very smart streetwise but doesn’t have a very substantial education.

2. Jim displays a lot of smart qualities but lacks formal education as well.

2. Opinion: Jim showed a lot of intelligence through out the book.

3. Jim knew how to get out of dangerous situations.

Ignorance …….

1.“Then she told me all about the bad places, and I said I wished I was there.” (Twain. 2) in Mark Twains book, “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.”

2.Huck didn’t want to change his old ways.

3.He wanted to be free all the time and do what ever he wanted to do and never wanted to follow the widow’s rules or parenting.

1.“The Widow Douglas she took me for her son, and allowed she would civilize me: but it was rough living in the house all the time, considering how dismal regular and decent the Widow was in all her ways ….” (Twain. 1)

2. Huck wasn’t looking forward to begin living a normal way of life unlike his life before, where he did anything he wanted.

3. Huck was an orphan who was ill mannered and had several ignorant ideas.

Poor and uneducated boy…

2. Huck and Jim travel together after escaping and learn several things about each others lives, character flaws, and regrets.

On the raft, away from civilization, Huck is especially free from society’s rules, able to make his own decisions without restriction.

He was always aware if danger was to come and always made plans.

He and Jim watched out for each other.

Read people….1.By the novel’s end, Huck has

learned to “read” the world around him, to distinguish good, bad, right, wrong, menace, friend, and so on.

2.“It didn’t took me long to make up my mind that these liars warn’t no Kings nor dukes at all, but just low down humbugs and frauds.” (Twain 125.)

Tom Sawyer vs. Huckleberry Finn….“And looky here—you drop that school, you hear?” (Twain19.)

1. Huck’s father Pap was a drunk who never wanted his son to do better than him.

2.He never wanted Huck to have an education and would threaten him if he wouldn’t quit school.

3. Tom Sawyer came from a middle class family and Huck came from a lower class family.

Conclusion….

1.By the novel’s end, Huck has learned to “read” the world around him, to distinguish good, bad, right, wrong, menace, friend, and so on.

2. Huck learned a lot about Jim’s personality and what kind of person he was.
