Mrs Shanthi Nagaraj hails from Haranakatte village of Hiriyur Taluk of Chitradurga District. She is Member of Annapurneshwari Self Help group. After her association with Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project ®, she took up the activity of preparation of condiments especially “Chakli” and this has now become brand named as “ Haranakatte chakli”.

Special achievement:

Before joining to SHG, both husband and wife were coolie workers hardly earning Rs.5000/- per •month.After joining SHG Shanthi Nagaraj availed a loan of Rs.1.5 lakhs for her small initiative of •preparation of chakli and for repair of house.Initially she was preparing chakli in small quantity and she herself was taking this to households. •But later on there was great demand for her product from the villages therefore she took up this activity on full time basis and her husband also supported her for marketing.This boosted her to prepare chakli in more and more quantity. From 7am to till 2pm she engages •herself in preparation, then 2 hours for packing. By evening 4pm her husband takes this to the buyers. She prepares chakli on demand basis.At present “Haranakatte chakli” is known to everyone in Hiriyur Taluk and it is available in •every shop. She is also getting demand from nearest taluk.Opened a shop of condiments at her home.•Her present income is around Rs. 1500/- per day.•Constructed a new house out of the savings of chakli business•Educated 2 daughters: one daughter completed degree, second daughter in pre university •course.Leading a very good and comfortable life.•She became a model for many women in villages. SHG women are visiting her site for learning •exposure.
