The Coach - Kabir Khan

He was once the hero of Indian Hockey, the best centre forward

in the world. But a narrow loss in World Cup resulted in a match-

fixing allegation against him and a consequent doom in career.

He is the man a nation found a hero in. And the man it sentenced

to hell.

Seven years later he has decided to make a last comeback to the

game he loves, to reclaim his lost honour and prove his point to

the nation, and to defeat the very cause which had made his

team suffer defeat.

The Toughest Hurdle -

Attitude towards Women in India

Career in sports is not meant for women.

Mens sports is adequately supported by authorities

sponsorships abundant for mens sports .

Womens abilities are underestimated in sports activities

which require physical abilities.

There is little effort by authorities to promote womens sports

mostly teams exist in paper only.

The So-Called Indian Womens

The team members are from diverse backgrounds

- There are veterans & novices from different states of India

with different cultures, languages, styles of living.

Each player is the best in her respective state

- There is an intolerant attitude of the players towards other

teammates

No focus in the team - each member was driven by personal

goals.

Ego tussles

Urban-rural divide

Senior-junior divide

Stronger-weaker category

Priority to personal motives over team motives

- Some members want to outshine another equally competent

teammate, e.g, two forward players compete to become the

highest goal-scorers.

The senior most player (Bindya Naik) has condescending

attitude towards other team mates.

- Experienced. But Arrogant!

Power Dynamics conflict between the coach and the

senior most player.

Applying means to make the team members interact and

bond with each other ,e.g., rules like no girl should stay

in the hostel with a girl from her own state.
