I - II SESSION: CORRECTION OF MITRAL AND TRICUSPID REGURGITATION
RationaleMitral regurgitation (MR) is the most frequent valvular disease in the Western wor-ld. The current standard of care of MR is surgical repair or replacement; however, in patients with advanced heart failure the results of cardiac surgery are not satisfac-tory in terms of medium and long-term morbidity and mortality. Functional tricuspid regurgitation (TR) is the most frequent form of tricuspid valve disease in Western countries. The current standard of care for TR is medical management, because surgical correction entails a high procedural risk. In this context, there is need for an interventional therapy with low periprocedural risk that is able to reduce valvular regurgitation and consequently improve patient prognosis. In recent years, several treatment options have been developed for the percutaneous treatment of MR and TR that are potential alternatives to surgery in patients at high or prohibitive surgical risk.
ObjectiveAttendees will learn patient selection criteria for interventional procedures, pre-procedural assessment workflow, procedural techniques with tips and tricks, evaluation of results and follow-up modalities.
AudienceThe course is designed for interventional cardiologists, clinical cardiologists, echocardiographists, cardiac surge¬ons, anaesthesiologists and radiologists.
LUNCH SESSION
RationaleOn top of clinical assessment, the careful evaluation of valve anatomy with advan-ced imaging technologies is of paramount importance for patient selection and for procedural guidance. The successful implementation of these new interventional techniques requires an in-depth knowledge of all imaging techniques and of their interactions during the procedure.
ObjectiveAttendees will learn patient selection criteria for interventional procedures on the mitral and tricuspid valves, choice and interpretation of imaging modalities for pre-procedural assessment and imaging techniques for intra-procedural guidance. The course will also aim to facilitate the interaction among interventional cardiologist, echocardiographers and radiologist.
AudienceThe course is designed for interventional cardiologists, clinical cardiologists, echo-cardiographists and radiologists.
