Project StatementMost areas with industrial pasts inherit problematic environmental futures. The black leaf 40 site used to be the host of a pesticide plant which after recent research from the EPA, was declared a Super Fund site. This project will bring meaning and purpose back to this once distant area of Louisville. The Sustainable Urban Research Campus with host Universities around the United States to take part in cutting edge research to enhance the quality of urban living. What better direction to go in for a Super Fund redevelopment site than toward the future of sustainability.

CHIMNEYsTop has a unique and strong connection to the area surrounding it. It will become a symbol of the Leestown Road area and will sever as a beacon for the whole community. The components of this bus shelter mimic many characteristics of the bluegrass region. The shelter pays tribute to the Craftsman style of architecture, while still maintaining a modern design feel. Note: This was a collaborative project between 2 others

Mixed-Use Infill Development

Mixed-use developments are a fairly new concept among designers, and urban planners. Mix-use developments are defined as the use of a building, set of building, or neighborhood for more than one purpose. During this project I was to design a Mixed-use development following both Lexington Kentucky ordinance, and then again using Bern Switzerland ordinance.

Water Quality Water quality has become a major issue, especially as it relates to offsite runoff. Federal and State Environmental Protection Regulations now require that any runoff that might negatively impact down stream ecosystems must be retained on the site. This project demonstrates the implementation of a water quality impoundment pond on site.

Sustainable Design Firm

This design firm is located in the South Hill area of Lexington Kentucky. This firm is on the forefront of sustainable design and decided to building a new firm to showcase their skills. The design firm unitizes solar energy to power the building, and good storm water management practices in a way that retains the majority of the water that falls on the site.

The Vineyard location was on the tip of Lower Howards Creek Nature Persevere. This 35 acre site offers a variety of cultural features including existing farm roads, two old cemeteries, and good conditions for grape vines. Our task was to execute inventory and analysis on the site before developing a design that would best fit the sites context.

Millersburg is a quiet little town located far enough away from the big city to receive that nice country feel, while still maintaining accessibly to Lexington, and Richmond. The design pulled the original historic theme out of the town while implementing an up to date streetscape look.

Plaza Design

This project was located within the University of Kentucky. The idea was to choose a plaza space that was in need of redevelopment. Once the plaza space was chosen we then chose a piece of art work that gave us inspiration. The above painting was done by Georgia O’Keeffe. This painting served as my inspiration for the Garrigus Plaza design.
