Section 2 Cultural VariationThere are many differences among cultures which makes it hard to understand those different form us. If an Australian invites you over for tea and says arrive at 7:00, what time should you arrive and what could you expect to do?

Arrive no earlier than 8:00 and expect lamb chops, sausage, French fries, a veggie, salad, and dessert.

Dealing with Variation in other societiesDifference are interesting, but often causes problemsEthnocentrism- ones use to their way and do not like to accept ways of doing it.
Can avoid a new way that may be beneficial.Cultural Relativism- judge things by their own standards not using your own bias.
Variation among SocietiesSubcultures- cultures that exists with in a culture but follow the norms and values of the larger culture
Example: Puerto Rican, Catholic, teachers, Counter culture- Exists with the larger culture but goes against the norms and values.
