Beautiful

A lawyer was just waking up from anesthesia after surgery, and his wife was sitting by his side. His eyes fluttered open and he said, "You're beautiful!" and then he fell asleep again. His wife had never heard him say that so she stayed by his side.

A couple of minutes later, his eyes fluttered open and he said, "You're cute!" Well, the

wife was disappointed because instead of "beautiful," it was "cute." She asked, "What

happened to 'beautiful'?" His reply was "The drugs are wearing off!"

Creamy baked custard

Ingredients

• 3 eggs

• 1/2 cup (115g) caster sugar

• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

• 1 cup (250ml) milk

• 300ml cream

• Ground nutmeg

Sliced or chopped peaches, to serve

Method Step 1

Preheat oven to 180°C. Whisk the eggs and sugar in a bowl until the sugar dis-solves. Whisk in the vanilla extract, milk and cream.

Step 2 Pour the mixture into a 4 cup (1 litre) ovenproof dish. Sprinkle the top with nutmeg. Place the dish in a roasting pan and pour enough boiling water in to come halfway up the side of the dish.

Step 3 Bake for 40 minutes, until the custard is just set - it will still be slightly wobbly, but will firm up on standing. Remove the dish from the roasting pan, and serve warm or at room temperature with chopped fresh peaches.

WHL laboratory operates on a 24 hour basis. Laborato-ry tests are performed for all clients coming to the la-boratory making requests. Requests for tests are either made by doctors, on behalf of their patients, internal or external, or by patients themselves (walk-in). The meth-ods of testing utilized by the laboratory staff are of in-ternational standard. Tests are performed on patients by obtaining the appro-priate specimen in keeping with the laboratory’s estab-lished quality management system (QMS). Patients are given a time to return depending on the nature or com-plexity of the test to be performed. For some tests pa-tients are counseled before or after, while at some, for instance, FBS, requires the patient to fast for 12 hours before the sample is taken. Specific instructions given to patients when requests are made for Lipid Profile, Glycosylated Haemoglobin and Complete Blood Count:

Lipid Profile A lipid profile is done to assess your risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) and to monitor treatment.

When to test If there is a history of CVD in your family For adults – every five (5) years For youths – once between the ages of 9 and 11

years and again between the ages of 17 and 21 years Preparation for test

You should fast for 12 hours Glycohaemoglobin A1c (HBA1c)

HBA1c is used to monitor a person’s diabetes and to aid in the treatment decisions to diagnose diabetes. The test is also used to help identify those at an increased risk of developing diabetes.

When to test When first diagnosed with diabetes and then 2 to 4

times per year The test can be included as part of a health check up When you have symptoms of diabetes Preparation for test

No preparation is needed to have the test done. Complete Blood Count (CBC)

A CBC is a panel of tests that evaluates the three (3) types of cells that circulate in the blood. The test is of-ten used to determine your general health status, to screen for, diagnose, or monitor various conditions such as anemia, leukemia, infection or inflammation, just to name a few.

When to test As part of a routine medical exam; When you have signs and symptoms that may be

related to a condition that affects blood cells; At regular intervals to monitor treatment or when

you are receiving treatment known to affect blood cells

If a person is healthy and has results that are within the normal limits, then he/she may not require another CBC until their health status changes or until their doctor feels that is necessary.
