Certificate of Need Filing for CaroMont Regional Medical Center-Belmont

Since announcing plans for building a new hospital in Belmont, we have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from our patients, community leaders and citizens alike.

In order to continue planning and begin construction on the new hospital, CaroMont Regional Medical Center-Belmont, we must file for a Certificate of Need (CON) from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. The CON will allow CaroMont Health to utilize the hospital beds allocated to Gaston County as part of the North Carolina State Medical Facilities Plan (SMFP), a document prepared annually at the direction of the North Carolina Department of Health & Human Services Division of Health Service Regulation and the North Carolina State Health Coordinating Council.

Our CON team has been working diligently to complete the application, and we are pleased to share that earlier today, we filed the official application accompanied by letters of support from more than 100 community leaders, business owners and respected members of our medical staff.

This is an exciting milestone in this project, and we hope to have final approval by March 2020. Anjalyse Valenti, RN on CVSU, was covering for the charge nurse when she noticed a change in heart rate and rhythm for a patient who had recently undergone heart valve replacement surgery (TAVR). Concerned that the patient may have developed a dangerous heart rhythm, she ran a bedside EKG. During that test, the patient’s heart rate dropped dramatically, the patient became unresponsive and a Code Blue was initiated. Anjaylse’s quick assessment of the situation helped identify the issue and get the patient the critical medical care needed.

Larissa Di Maria, RN on CVSU, noticed her patient was experiencing a heart rhythm change post TAVR procedure. While the patient showed no symptoms and the rhythms did not produce alarms on the monitor, Larissa still recognized a need to elevate her concern. Once cardiology was notified, it was determined that the patient had several heart rhythm issues and would need a pacemaker. Larissa’s expertise and attention to detail helped identify and correct a serious issue for the patient.
