The 14th Annual Bike to Work Day event is set to take

place Wednesday, April 17, and you're invited to join

in!

This event draws participants from area businesses,

and is presented by Maricopa County with support

from the city of Phoenix to highlight the benefits of

bicycle commuting.

Participants who register for the group ride or solo ride

by April 12 will receive a light breakfast at CityScape, a

Valley Metro t-shirt, and be eligible to win great prizes.

Bike to Work Day is a signature event of Valley Bike

Month.

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a training program designed to teach basic disaster survival skills. This training is sanctioned and promoted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA.) This training is to prepare citizens to react within their community. There are Type I through V levels of CERT training.

Here are the details:

When: May 13 and 14; 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and May 15; 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Where: Aviation COB Bldg. (2485 East Buckeye Rd.)

HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC: $23.51 - $28.69/hour - Aviation Department.

This position supports a diverse fleet of 900 plus pieces of equipment that require performance of regular preventative maintenance schedules and safety inspections; test driving vehicles, recording repairs and services on work orders. Requires experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy duty equipment or the completion of a recognized heavy equipment mechanic apprenticeship program.

Emerging Leaders Book Club challenges all city of

Phoenix employees to read Dare to Lead: Brave

Work. Tough Conversations. Whole Hearts. by

author Brené Brown.

This book teaches that when we dare to lead, we

don’t pretend to have the right answers; we stay

curious and ask the right questions. We don’t see

power as finite and hoard it; we know that power

becomes infinite when we share it with others.

New Interactive Street Restrictions and Closures Map

The Street Transportation Department has launched an Interactive Map for Planned Major Street Restrictions and Closures to provide city residents and visitors with near real-time infor-mation. The new map includes pan, zoom and sorting tools that allow users to interact with the map to change the display on the map. The interac-tive map can be sorted to display current and future street restrictions and closures associat-ed with private development, special events, utility work and street construction and mainte-nance; and can also be sorted to display emergency street closures.

Sumeet Mohan is retiring after almost 19 years with the city. Sumeet worked in Planning and Development for about 3 years, and in Water Services for about the last 16 years. Come join Sumeet and help him celebrate his career with the city as he prepares to move on to the next chapter of his life.
