ATLAS activities located in one very large tent next to GlobeandOne smaller tent over the – obligatory – LHC dipolePlus visits to ATLAS underground (with own queue tent space)

Underground: 100 people per hour, 1000 people per day max.Friday 27th Sept. = Industry & VIP day (ONLY underground visits, no tickets)Saturday 28th Sept. = CERN staff, users + their familiesSunday 29th Sept. = general publicTickets allocated by an online lottery system (for visits 28/29 Sept)

Above-ground Main tent:ATLAS Cinema : darkened area with benchesRegular timed event (e.g. on the hour)Intro by ATLAS physicist Followed by showing of ATLAS film (maybe even in 3D)Followed by splitting into groups and magnetic puzzle competition(small souvenirs as prizes for winning team)

Cloud Chamber display : also in a darkened, ventilated area

Souvenir Photo stand : Large ATLAS backdrop (image of detector), visitors stand in front for a free photo, printed instantly

ATLAS Shop : selling ATLAS souvenirs

Charity Snack Stand : drinks and simple snacks, all profits to charity

Kids corner : carpeted corner with Tv/DVD, games, unsupervised

Steve idea : computer area where you can upload your photo instantlyto your social media site

PENDING: Neil Dixon/Fido – repeat of last hand’s on table – Wire Your Own Straw TubeNeil has equipment and will explain, needs volunteers to run it

Each main LHC visit point is required to take a complete Dipole for its site.

After much discussion this will now be located right up against the Globe on an already tarmacked surface in its own tent.

Open issue: Detector pieces inside with physicists to explain or not?(Steve/Beniamino)

Otherwise one or two physicists and maybe some posters to explain the dipole

Underground queue tent:In case of bad weather, a tent has been requested to hold the peoplequeueing for their visit underground. Normally there shouldn’t be much queueing if central timing is respected but….Tent will have some screens running ATLAS animations and film

OPEN ISSUES:

Do we do a computer area? Not my speciality. I have asked for computers andShould get them but setting up must be done by somebody else

Do we do the TRT straw area? Neil will train and provide materials

Do we put detector parts inside Dipole tent or not?

Do we add time in the AVC for each underground visit or not? I pref. not – more diff.to manage

I have secured one of the following video wall installations from Hermann Schmickler for Inside our main tent= what do we put on it? Should be fancy.

Description from Hermann:With Loic Lavrut (IT) I am developing a small project for a video wall, i.e. 4 x 46” monitors with a PC as video splitter on a movable support. The total cost is about 10 kCHF and I will at least buy 2 of those installations. They will make a “screen” of 2.10 x 1.6 m^2 and they will work even if people stand in front of the screen (compared to beamers). If you want one of those, please let me know. Later they will be used by Rolf Landua et al.

VOLUNTEERS

Have an informal small core team so far – Laurent, Marc, Chris + Steve + Tiina

Plus approx. 12 volunteers (mixed physicists and non-physicists) followingemail to Collaboration

Obviously need many more – estimate 60, mixed between tent activitiesAnd managing underground groups
