WhatWillILearn?This coursewill provide thegeometricand radiometricbasisof SAR remote sensing,will introduce the SAR EDU learningplatformandkeytoolssuchasthose intheSentinelApplica-tionsPlatform,andprovideapplicationexercises,e.g. inagri-culture and disasters, using SAR data and image processingtools. CEOSWGCapDCourseonSARTechnologySatelliteimagesacquiredbyaSyntheticApertureRadar(SAR)canprovide informationoverdifferent typesof terrainandunderdi-verseweather conditions not obtainable fromopticalor infraredimages.ThismakesSARtechnologyapowerfultoolthatprovidescomplementary or unique information over an area.When usedtogether,SARandotherEarthObservationdatacanprovideveryuseful information for decision-making in national programs orscientificresearch.The CEOSWGCapD training coursewill contribute to the under-standinganddevelopmentofskillsintheuseofSARtechnologyintheAmericasregionandprovideanawarenessonhowandwhereto access freely available SAR data and open-source image pro-cessingsoftware.ThecoursewillcoverthebasicprinciplesofSARremote sensingand provideexamplesofhowSAR isused indif-ferentapplicationssuchasagriculture,volcanomonitoring,forest-ry,mappingwaterbodies,floods,andoilspills.

TheCEOSWGCapDTheWorkingGrouponCapacityBuilding andData Democracy(WGCapD) of the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites(CEOS)carriesoutactivitiesaimedatincreasingthecapacityofinstitutions in developing countries for effective use of EarthObservationdata for thebenefitofsocietyandtoachievesus-tainabledevelopment.Thoseactivitiesprovidewiderandeasieraccess toEarthObservationdata, increase the sharingofsoft-waretools such as theuseof open-source softwareandopensystems interface, transfer relevant technologies to endusers,andprovideintensivecapacitybuilding,education,andtraining.WGCapD contributes to the development of the AmeriGEOSSinitiative,“torealizeafuturewhereindecisionsandactions,forthe benefit of the region, are informed by coordinated, com-prehensiveandsustainedEarthobservationsandinformation”.Thiscourseisoneofthosecontributions.

CEOSWGCapD-CursosobreTecnologíaSARImágenessatelitalesdeRadardeAperturaSintética(SAR)puedenproporcionar informaciónacercadediferentes tiposde terrenoydiversas condicionesclimáticasnoobteniblede imágenesópticaso infrarrojas.
