President’s Message ~ Muriel Harkins
“The best and most beautiful things in the
world cannot be seen or even touched -
they must be felt with the heart.” Helen
Keller
Happy New Year to all our supporters,
trustees, grant recipients, and members!
CCFC had the most wonderful celebration
at their Season to Believe winter event in
December 2017. Once again, members all
pitched in to create a magical night in a beautifully decorated Veteran’s
Hall. Friends, family and members had a great dinner and raised enough
money to give out grants to San Luis Obispo’s Children’s organizations
totaling $81,000. All that love and positive energy came though to pro-
pel us into the next year. Thanks to all our friends who supported us.
We feel positive that we can continue making a difference in children’s
lives this coming year. Be sure to mark your calendars for the Support-
er’s Luncheon on March 14 to hear how our grant recipients are helping
children in our county. It is always very inspiring to hear their personal
stories and to know how much our combined dedication is rewarded. In
today’s world we CAN make a difference working together. Thanks to
everyone who has helped us reach our goal!

Grant Information
Does your organization sup-port children at risk in San Luis Obispo County? Grants are available to assist your organization. Grants may be submitted anytime but must be postmarked by Septem-ber 30, 2018. Grant forms and guidelines are available on our website: Central-coastfundsforchildren.org
As we begin an exciting new year and look back on a very busy and
successful 2017, the heart of our organization is its dedicated and hard-
working members. That heart just continues to grow and get warmer
every year. We have had the pleasure to welcome a new provisional
member, Carolyn Brown. She and her husband and two children come
to us from Visalia, Ca. She specialized as an orthopedic nurse for 30
years. We were sad to have Ricki Pace, an active, vital part of this or-
ganization for many years, transition to Trustee. However due to the
fact that we are so fortunate to have such an active group of Trustees,
we are not saying goodbye to Ricki. She will just join the ranks of our
hardworking, always there when you need them, Trustee members.
Gay Hull has taken a six month leave of absence but will be welcomed
back with open arms. As of this date we have 32 active members with
openings for three new members. You won’t find a better group of la-
dies. Everyone is fun loving, welcoming, enthusiastic and committed to
the children of San Luis Obispo County.

Season to Believe 2017
On December 1, the Veteran’s Building was
transformed into a magical winter wonderland for
CCFC’s annual event, Season to Believe. Christmas
trees twinkled with white lights and tables featured
festive holiday centerpieces created by CCFC mem-
bers. Guests sipped champagne as they socialized
with friends and perused both the live and silent
auction items and the centerpieces to be raffled.
The delicious dinner was catered by Auten Brothers
and cupcakes for dessert were provided by Judy
Knapp. Where’s Sweeny entertained guests before
and after dinner with favorite tunes from the 60’s,
70’s, and 80’s. The Templeton Middle School Ukule-
le Band performed a variety of songs and the Young
Men’s Ensemble and AVE Women’s Ensemble from
the Central Coast Children’s Choir serenaded guests
during dinner. Dr. Marty Craven served as our auc-
tioneer. The success of this event is due to both the
businesses and individuals who donated services,
wine, coffee, linens, glasses, auction items and en-
tertainment. They are listed on page 2. A huge
thank you also goes to our CCFC members who all
assisted in making this event so successful. That is
what our organization is about ~ doing whatever it
takes!!

Fund a Cause ~ Sunshine Sacks There are approximately 350 children in out-of-
home care in San Luis Obispo County. When children
are taken from their homes and put into the foster care
system, they leave with only the clothes they are wear-
ing. In 2007 a group of CCFC members began a program
of creating a fun-filled sack stuffed with a blanket,
stuffed animal, toothpaste, toothbrush, crayon, coloring
book, hair brush and other comfort items. When these
children are given our Sunshine Sacks it is the only pos-
session they have.
We obtain some of these items and fabric
through generous community donations, Kiwanis de
Tolosa and Saint Barnabas Thrift Store in Arroyo Grande.
We distribute these bags to The Family Care Network,
Women’s Shelter and The South County Youth Coalition.
Our Sunshine Sacks have also been provided to the fami-
lies that have qualified for the Housing Support Program
which are referred due to domestic violence. This year
alone we delivered 187 Sunshine Sacks.
The requests for Sunshine Sacks increased dra-
matically and we exhausted the donated funds to pur-
chase items to fill the sacks. As part of the live auction
in this year’s Season to Believe, one of the auction items
was Fund a Cause which would benefit our Sunshine
Sacks program. Over $9,000 was raised just for the Sun-
shine Sacks program! We are so grateful to our gener-
ous donors.
Also, Sharon Baldridge who has coordinated
this program along with Cheryl Fernandez is retiring
after 18 years. We thank her for all that she has done
for the Sunshine Sacks program. Two newer members,
Julie Cross and Lynn Hames will work with Cheryl to con-
tinue this valuable and rewarding program.

On December 9, 2017, Central Coast Funds for Children held its annual pajama drive at the Woodland Plaza in Paso Robles. KJUG broadcasted live from the parking lot in front of Golden 1 Credit Union and JC Penny’s. Central Coast Funds for Children was privileged to be able to help coordinate the event to collect pajamas for the children. The DJ’s drew listeners and supporters from all over the county and kept them advised of the needs and any special sizes. In the end, Central Coast Funds for Children delivered over 500 pairs of pajamas to the Women’s Shelter, ALPHA, RISE, Family Resource Center, Family Care Net-work, Child Resource Center, Friends of Martha’s Place, CAPSLO, Public Health Depart-ment, North County Connection Recovery Resource Center, Transitions Mental Health, ACTS, South County Youth Coalition and Womenade. Christmas was surely brighter and warmer for the children who benefited from the generosity of our community. Thank you to all who donated pajamas and a BIG thank you to KJUG and Golden 1 Credit Union for once again partnering with Central Coast Funds for Children.
