    Hello?

Hello?? Is anyone LISTENING TO ME??Getting a message out is harder and harder than ever. One of the great ironies of our time is that

we are more connected than ever before, with cellphones, email, text messages, Facebook,

websites, etc., etc., but the sheer deluge of communications we receive makes it hard todetermine which are important and should be given our attention.

Every organization faces the challenge of getting their message across and churches are no

exception. In addition to the weekly bulletin and monthly newsletter, heres what were doing to

help you stay current on the news and events of Central Presbyterian:

    1. Website - we have created a brand new website that will contain both a wealth of static

information about the church - service times, classes, MDO, staff and so on - but also will have

information about upcoming events right on the home page. Recent sermons can also be

downloaded from the website. Check it out at www.centralonthesquare.org.

    2. We now have the capability of sending email blasts to those in the congregation who useemail. If you have not received an email from Central in the last couple of weeks, please send

your email to Bertie at [email protected] to get on the mailing list.

    3. We are in the process of implementing a system that will make phone calls and play a

prerecorded message to all households in the church database. This will work exactly like the

system used by the school district. We will use this for reminders of important events and to get

the word out in the event of an emergency, like if weather forces the cancellation of a church

event. You will be able to opt out of the phone messages if you wish.

    4. Facebook pages. Central has the following pages that also display event information, edifying

messages and pictures of recent events:

Church page - search for Central on the Square and like the page.

Music Ministry - search for Music Ministry at Central On the Square and like the page. Childrens Ministry - search for Central's Kid's Ministry and like the page.

Youth Ministry - search for Youth Ministry at Central On The Square and like the page.

We will use all of these avenues to broadcast news and events. But again, given the sheer

volume of messages we receive, its up to you to make the extra effort to receive and give

attention to the communications we send.

Theres LOTS of great stuff happening at Central - I hope you will keep informed of all of it.

MISSION COMMITTEE UPDATEChurch mission work means supporting and bringing Gods word to people far away, right?

Wrong! Thats only part of it. Central Presbyterian Church supports 12 local charities: Meals

on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, the Salvation Army Clearing House, Network, the Gide-

ons, United Churches, Women In Need, Fruitbelt Farmworkers, the Wilson College Chaplain

Fund, the Chambersburg Hispanic Center, Franklin County Prison Ministry, Pregnancy Min-

istries, and the Cold Weather Shelter.

Want to help? Lookfor the little manila envelopes in the pews that say Local Mission

Causes. Place it in the offering plate with your contribution, or drop it off at the church of-

    fice.

And the other way you can help is to join the mission committee! Were always looking for

ideas and helping hands. Meetings are usually once a month, Thursday at 4:00pm

This year our Mission giving in VBS will go to help the children at Navajo Min-

istries in Farmington, New Mexico. The picture above shows the Hoganstyle center of one of the long-term childrens homes. Many Navajo childrenwhose parents are not able to care for them come to live here and find loving

houseparents who care for their needs and share the love of Jesus with them.

These children have often beenthrough horrible circumstances

and have a hard time learning

and focusing in a regular school.
