Since 1893, Bernina has been producingthe worlds finest sewing machines!

Sew, We have been talking a lot aboutour UFO’s. For those who do not know,UFO’s are not the Unidentified FlyingObject, but Un-Finished (sewing) Objects.One local quilt store used to call them PIGS…Projects InGrocery Sacks. We have talked about them like we areobsessed with the topic. But UFO are the dirty little secret wehid in our sewing rooms or studios! The store dedicated theentire year of 2017 to reducing our UFO burdens to havingin-store retreats for the sole purpose of completing (some of)them. Even a contest was formed to reward those who com-pleted the most. We even joked about a AA style supportgroup. The meeting might sound a little like this:Person #1: “Hello. My name is Laura and I have UFO’s”The group: “Hello Laura!”Person #1: “I didn’t know I had so many. I was lying to myself about the amount I had. I bragged to everyone how disciplined I was! That I completed EVERY project I started… until one day, I decided to clean out a closet and a few storage boxes. I found one project, then another, then another! Before I knew it, I was knee deep in hidden UFO’s!”The group: shakes their heads up and down in acceptance. Someone mutters “yeah sister!”.Person #1: “I need help. I don’t know if it counts… but, do you include all the stuff you bought for a project, even If it’s not started?”The group: “YES”Person #2: “But that’s the support group that meets on

Tuesdays. We meet in the room beside the Hoarders Support group.”Person #3: “You’re welcome to join. It’s nice to see everyone twice a week.”Person #4: “We have a retreat twice a year to work on

projects. You should join us.”Person #5: “Will all this help me finish and get rid of my UFO’s”Silence falls over the room. Heads are lowered, looking at thefloor. There is no eye contact.Person #3: “Well, no, not really. You see, we are also in

several sewing and quilting guilds. And we go to a lot of classes.”Person #2: “You want to join us!”I guess if you are a sewist… you’re going to have UFO’sWith or without a support group!
