Monday, August 12th: James Lam, President of James Lam & Associates

Since founding James Lam & Associates in 2002, James has served as a management consultant and board

advisor to organizations in North America and Asia. He is a published author. His book is Enterprise Risk Management, and he has won many awards pertaining to risk management. He coined the term Chief Risk Officer (CRO), and subsequently became the first. In a 2005 Euromoney survey, James was nominated by clients

and peers as one of the leading risk consultants in the world.

James will speak on ERM.

Tuesday, August 13th: Carolyn Saint, Chairperson for the IIA’s North American Board

Carolyn Saint is the Vice President of Internal Audit for 7-Eleven, Inc. Carolyn possesses a deep knowledge and focus on strategic and enterprise risks, process improvement opportunities, and financial stewardship obtained from 15 years’ experience providing assurance services to clients and Fortune 50 companies. She is a frequent

speaker on governance and internal audit topics.

Carolyn is a licensed CPA and holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Science in Professional Accountancy from Walsh College. Carolyn currently serves as Senior Vice Chairman of the Institute of Internal Auditors’ North American Board of Directors and is a member of the IIA North American Advocacy Committee.

Carolyn will give an update on the North American Board, as well as discuss current audit trends.

Iowa State Fair Join us on Sunday, August 11th for a network event at the Iowa State Fair. The midway, animals, butter sculptures and the FOOD are all part of the Iowa State Fair that will take place from August 8th through the 18th. The fair is one of oldest and largest agriculture and industrial expositions in the U.S. and has attracted over one million visitors the last couple of years. This year, the fair celebrates with the theme "Nothing Compares". Plan some time to attend and enjoy the fair with your family. Tickets can be ordered with your registration at $8.00 for adults, $4.00 for children ages 6-11, and children 5 and under are free. You may also take advantage of our discount fair ticket packages. (See pricing on the registration form below.) Tickets will be mailed out if bought two months in advance. Otherwise, tickets may be picked up at the Marriott hotel front desk the day of the event. Registrants may choose to drive to the State Capitol, where buses will take you to the fair for $2 roundtrip. (There is free parking at the State Capitol.) The State Capitol is located 1.4 miles from the Marriott hotel downtown.

The 2013 Midwest District Conference will be held at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown. You may make reservations by calling their toll free number 1-800-228-9290 or their local number 515-245-5500. Be sure to mention that you are attending the “Institute of Internal Auditors Midwest District Conference 2013” to receive our group rate of $109 per night. You may also make your reservation via our special group rate link: Book Standard at Des Moines Marriott Downtown for $109 per night. Hotel room rates are subject to applicable state and local taxes in effect at the time of check out. Reservations must be received on or before Sunday, July 21, 2013 to receive the special group rate. The Hotel will provide free shuttle service to/from the Des Moines airport for registered guests.
