DID YOU KNOW: On Brandywine Creek, willows weep where Patriots

bled. In the late summer of 1777, at Head of Elk, Haryland, General Howe landed 12,500 troops for a move on Philadelphia. Washington deployed 11,000 troops along the Brandywine. Howe crossed the Brandywine, outflanded Washington and defeated him .. DO YOU KNOW the name of the musket that won the Revolution? In the early days of the War many Americans were armed with the Brown Bess Musl~eto When Benjamin Franklin was in France he purchased a large number of a French musket, the Charleville, an ill!provement over the Jl.mericRn Husl~et.

DESCENT F'ROH SIR HENRY PYNN!

Submitteti-by: Rafael Sagastizabel

'fhis documen-1: was Nri tten by Helena Blanche Frederickson {_i\unt Blanche) to her niece Mary .Alice Harris LJennings, ~·'lho was interested in the !'ynn lineage and later she inherited the wedding dishes of Elizabeth Pynn Harris which had been passed from first daughter to first daughter for over a hundred yearse

7\.unt Blanche is the sister of my Great-grandmother Vir!toria Alexandria Frederickson T·7eeks of the 4th gene:rntion.

!·1ary .i\lice ,Jennings, my mother's sister sent ~·,te a copy of this docu.ment in 1972 Nhen I had first began genealogy. }\t the time I vlas nine years old.

TO T,IJHQH IT ~:JAY CONCEP.N: Based on a document, under date of October 1896, received

from the London 1 England, rvar f"lf'fice v our direct line of maternal descent from Sir Henry Pynn is i'IS fr,llm<Ts:

Sir Henry and his ~<life Susann.::t Pynn had eleven children, of v'lhom the third child, and first daughter, ivA.S nur div-ect maternal ancestress. Prom her \ve ·i::race our Pynn Line'tge, to \'lit:

by Francis X. LaHson, son or ~1.ary J. Frederickson-Lmvson, of the 4th generation, who bore no daughter.

Each of these maternal descenr'l.a.nts, wi t!l. the exceotion of Victoria A. T<'rederickson-r'!eeks of the 4th generation, bore more than the one child named for the purpose of this direct maternal descent.

According to in f=orrna tion J:ecei ved from one Emanuel Py:nn, son of one of the sons of Sir Henry, he, Sir Henry, was knighted by the King of Engle.ad (probably George IV or rvilliam IV) for services to the CrcNn. 'rhese services cnnsisted of forming a regiment of voluntc~e::s at Harbor '}race, :"lewfoundland, and fighting with much h-cavery, in Canada. BRASS HUBBIHG

At the l'1arch meeting, Hr. and I'1rs. Charles Sullivan presented a very interesting program on Brass Rubbings. 'l'he Sullivan's, who have traveled extensively in England, have a large collection of the rubbings and much knowledge as to their significance--all of which they shared with the Society. Brass Rubbings can provide valuable genealogical and historical data, as well as serve as decor items.

The Society is indebted to this very nice couple for the opportur~ty to learn more about this art forme

Homerville, Ga. Oct. 15th., A little son of Seward Smith 21/2 years old fell from a porch and broke his leg a few days ago. He is doing as well as could be expectede · James c. Smith, 81 years old, was taken sick at his son's home near town a few days ago, with paralysis. He is now c.t his home five miles from town. He is not expected to live. He is a remarkable man 1 neverhaving been sick. The annual camp-meeting has just closed at this place. It was considered a good meeting.

An old man by the name of J\miper Griffis and his wife live about ten miles from here. They are both 90 years old; they walJ~ three miles to Peagler's Still to do their trading~ They do their own work, living on a farm where they ~aised a large familyo Their descendants number scores and live around them. The old man has all his teeth and gets on a horse from off the ground like a young man.

H. J. Peagler has bought out the lands near here of the estate of the late R. B. Crum. It is a valuahle farm. .Hr. Peagler contemplates turning it into a fr·uJ. t farm.
