"DB2 12 for z/OS Overview" Maryela Weihrauch

Maryela will present an overview of exciting new functionality which is planned to be available in DB2 12 for z/OS in 4Q 2017 as well as give a brief outlook on the topics beyond DB2 12.

"A Matter of Time: Temporal and Archive Data Management in DB2 for z/OS and IDAA" Maryela Weihrauch

You could say it was just a matter of time... Industry regulations and competitive pressures are prompting IT managers to maintain more data for longer periods of time and to provide better ways for business users to analyze past, current, and future events. To help organizations achieve these goals, IBM has built greater awareness of time into DB2 for z/OS starting with V10 and continuously enhanced in DB2 11 and 12 based on new customer use cases. Maryela introduces you to the concepts and capabilities of DB2 bi-temporal and transparent archiving in DB2 and IDAA. She will provide examples and best practice recommendations to help you understand how easy it can be to deploy it in our organization and unlock historical and archive data for analytical use cases. "DB2 and Application Programming: Let me explain it to you again!" Brain Laube

Manulife SQLCODE -805 (reason code 2 or 3), DBRM, contokens, packages, plans, collections, static sql (& dynamic sql), DSNHLI and "attaching" to DB2, syspackage and syspackstmt BIND vs REBIND bind parms This presentation topic idea is based upon my experience as a "application" DB2 DBA supporting developers of DB2 applications in dev and prod. I find myself constantly explaining the same type of DB2 application error (often sqlcode -805) and DB2 concepts to these various end-users. The default action for SQLCODE -805 is often to just BIND the DBRM and hope for the best... But understanding how it all works and fits together provides context and helps understand WHY the error occurs. I often end up explaining to the requestor what is static sql and why it is a "thing" (the pros and cons). I then go through and explain how to map the -805 message information to the information in the DB2 catalog and how it all connects together.

“Zen and the Art of Database Performance” Steve Rees IBM Canada

Performance problems can be tough to solve, especially if you've not had to deal with them much before. In this session, we'll go through a step-by-step, decision tree-based approach for tackling performance problems. We start by identifying the core area of the bottleneck - is it time spent processing, or time spent just waiting? Then, by using DB2's powerful monitoring interfaces, we refine our diagnosis, drilling down layer by layer. This logical, efficient approach not only helps us get to root cause, but it does so in a way that avoids wasting time by "trying random stuff" which isn't likely to help. Based on a prior & highly successful IDUG session of the same name, this presentation has been completely revised and updated for 2015, using the latest levels of DB2 LUW. Steve Rees is an IBM Senior Technical Staff Member focusing on DB2 LUW performance. Steve joined the IBM Toronto Laboratory in 1991, and has worked on DB2 LUW ever since. He currently leads teams across multiple areas of DB2 performance, including pureScale and SQLDB transactional cloud, as well as Optim tools performance. Steve has an ongoing passion for developing best practices in the area of monitoring and tuning DB2, and presents regularly at conferences.

The IMS Development Lab promotes installing maintenance on a regular, ongoing basis as a key best practice. Doing so can not only increase system stability, it can also save you from some headaches. Jack will provide details on enhancements that include IMS Connect's ability to accept SSL signature algorithm pair specifications, support for RACF passwords that contain 14 special characters, improvements to the Resume Tpipe protocol for ACK Timeout, the benefits of a higher flood limit in OTMA flood control, and improved traceability in an IMSplex environment. Jack Yuan is a Senior Engineer who has been with IBM for over 28 years. His focus is on IMS Transaction Manager, OTMA, and IMS Connect. Some of the key technology areas Jack has worked on are OTMA/APPC shared queues enablement, callable interface for IMS Connect and OTMA, IMS Connect super member support, synchronous callout, MQ bridge/OTMA connection, synchronous program switch, and IMS 100K TPS. You can contact Jack at [email protected].
