QHow do Jou r neys and badges d i f f e r ? W i l l g i r l s have a  cho i ce o f do ing one o r th e o the r ?

Journeys and badges are designed to be complementary, not to compete. Journeys are the core Girl Scout curriculum. They have been developed to help all Girl Scouts develop thethree keys to leadership: Discover, Connect and Take Action.Badges complement the journeys by helping girls build skills

Q. W i l l i t be poss ib le fo r badge r equ i r em en ts to coun t

Journey awards are based on a girl’s participation in a wholeseries of interrelated activities and discussions that contributeto a girl’s overall experience and that help her develop the

three keys to leadership. Badges, on the other hand, focusbe counted as completion of a badge activity requirement. “requirements” for earning awards are not meant to be rigid. What’s most important is that girls gain exposure to a varietyof opportunities and enjoy activities based on the three keysof Discover, Connect, and Take Action.

Q. W i l l “ O u r Ow n Co u n c il ” a n d “ O u r Ow n T r o o p”

Yes. Guidelines for Our Own Council Awards, badges basedon innovative activities developed by Girl Scout councils, willbe revised. New guidelines will give councils an opportunityto produce new Council’s Own badges and add skill-buildingactivities for girls, promote what’s great about the council, urge local girls and visitors to learn about area interests, andencourage purposeful Girl Scout travel.

Q. Wil l g i r l s st i l l ea rn Cook ie badges?

Thank you to our dedicated volunteerswho supported the Council!

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for yoursupport of the Annual Family Campaign. The time andeffort our volunteers took to be trained, hand out envelopesand to explain the importance of the campaign helped to raiseover $60,000.00!

These dollars help our Council support over 25,000 girls in their Girl Scout experience, as well as maintaining campproperties, training new and experienced volunteers, develop-ing online tools, conducting background screening for adultsworking with girls and operating retail shops and programcenters.

It costs about $220/ year per girl to deliver Girl Scouts to girls and we raise about $178 of this cost through pro-gram fees, camp fees, property rentals and product sales. Theremaining $42 per girl requires fund raising - and that is whythe volunteers for our Annual Family Campaign are so impor-

tant! The $12 registration fee you pay goes directly toGSUSA, it does not stay with our Council.

The Girl Scout experience is a gift that lasts a lifetime. Thankyou for valuing Girl Scouting in your daughter’s life by sup-porting this important cause.
