The Celtic Manor Resort’s flagship European Tour golf event will kick off the race for qualification for The 2014 Ryder Cup when it switches to a new later date in the international schedule this summer.

The 2013 tournament will be the first counting event towards qualification for the European Team which will defend The Ryder Cup at Gleneagles in 2014.

Many of The European Tour’s brightest stars will return to compete for a trophy won in previous years by Ryder Cup stars including Graeme McDowell, Robert Karlsson, Miguel Angel Jiménez, Ian Poulter, Paul Lawrie and Paul McGinley, and Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee who claimed the £300,000 first prize in 2012.

Owned and run by The Celtic Manor Resort and situated only a short drive from the resort itself, the Newbridge on Usk is a delightful country inn occupying an idyllic location on the banks of the River Usk.

This five star ‘restaurant with rooms’ provides a relaxing rural retreat with six stylish en-suite bedrooms, while its 2 AA Rosette award-winning restaurant offers wholesome country fare, lovingly cooked using fresh local ingredients.

Owing to its fabulous setting, visitors have the opportunity to enjoy fly, spin and bait fishing at a nearby spot on the River Usk. Synonymous with some of the best salmon and trout fishing outside of Scotland, an experienced Ghillie will guide you in the skills required to fish this dramatic tidal river.
