SATURDAY 19TH OCTOBER – ARRIVAL 1700

PUERTO CALERO

Puerto Calero Marina, on Lanzarote’s warm and sheltered southern coast, welcomes visitors with a scenic waterfront and engaging

variety of restaurants and shops. This delightful marina bustles with a friendly village-like atmosphere, a great place to start your

holiday!

We ask that you join Celtic Star by 1700 hours for safety briefing followed by Cava & canapes and a delicious dinner of local fish from

SUNDAY 20TH OCTOBER 2019

MARINA DE LANZAROTE, ARRECIFE - 10NM

On the first day, following a comprehensive

introduction to our boat and how it works, we

plan a short sail north to Arrecife so that

everyone can get used to being on board.

Arrecife maintains much of its historical

maritime charm with shops and activity

centered around the pretty waterfront and

two natural harbours. Seventeenth and

eighteenth-century forts, once required to

defend the city from pirates and marauders

now house museums celebrating the island’s

art and history.

There will be time to explore this delightful

city before choosing a restaurant and dining

ashore.

MONDAY 21S T OCTOBER 2019

ARRECIFE TO ISLA GRACIOSA – 35 NM

Volcanic terrain and crystal clear anchorages at the spectacular Montana Amarilla on Graciosa, an islet just north of Lanzarote

Today the plan is to sail a little further now everyone has their sea legs. We will continue to sail north enjoying the remarkable scenery for which Lanzarote is famous. Hopefully spotting some of the wildlife that flourish in the Canary Islands.

Depending on the swell conditions we will choose either the tiny harbour on Graciosa or find one of the idyllic bays that Graciosa is renowned for, to spend the night at.

After a longer sail we’ll be ready for a swim and a glass of fizz before dining aboard on some of the food that makes us famous!.

TUESDAY 22N D OCTOBER 2019

EXPLORE ISLA DE GRACIOSA

With its fantastic beaches and volcanos, Graciosa is a great place to visit. There is time to spend the day exploring ashore, walk to the village, climb the volcano or relax on the beach before returning for a drink on board at sunset.

Santa Cruz is notable for its typical houses and its narrow, cobbled streets, which branch out from the large central square where you can see the bandstand, some water tanks and candelabra trees. It is worth visiting the Parish Church of Santa Cruz da Graciosa, the Church of Santo Cristo, the Cruz da Barra and the Ethnographic Museum, which houses exhibits linked to wine culture, with traditions on the island, and

to whaling.

WEDNESDAY 23R D OCTOBER 2019

ISLA GRACIOSA TO ISLA LOS LOBOS FUERTEVENTURA 40NM

A full day of sailing today.! Making our way south along the western side of Lanzarote we will be heading for the northern tip of Fuerteventura. With 40 miles to sail and hopefully the wind on our back it should be a glorious day of blue skies, sparkling seas and dolphins. We will eat lunch on the way, then finish the day in the picturesque port of Carralejo on Fuerteventura.

Choose a restaurant ashore for dinner, tapas perhaps?

THURSDAY 24TH OCTOBER 2019

EXPLORE FUERTEVENTURA

Today is your opportunity to see a little of this island. Corralejo is a town on the north-east coast of Fuerteventura. It is known for the Corralejo Natural Park, featuring windy, dune-backed beaches like Playa del Moro. The park is home to endangered wildlife and Montaña Roja, a volcano with panoramic views. The town, a former fishing village, is dotted with eateries and bars.

Return to Celtic Star for canapes and dinner.

these stunning anchorages get a place on Yachting World’s list of 5 best Canaries anchorages!

CANARIES WILDLIFE

Flora: For centuries, the flora of the Canary Islands has captured the interest of specialists from all over the world. Canarian flora is unique as there are many plant species that became extinct in the other elsewhere during the ice age, that survived here. Consequently, this island has become a point of reference for the study of the planet’s flora, which explains why people affirm that the Canaries are to botany what the Galapagos islands are to zoology.

Fauna: The terrestrial fauna of the Island is characterised by the absence of big vertebrates and harmful species. Birds and reptiles are the most numerous species of land based Gran Canaria wildlife. Don’t forget of course the humble canary, famed for its great singing ability.

The marine fauna of Gran Canaria is rich and diversified, due mainly to the environmental diversity and the

geographical situation of the island. We can expect to see numerous dolphins and pilot whales, some of the larger

whale species too.

Turtles are common in

particular The Caretta

Caretta the Loggerhead

Sea Turtle is

conspicuously the most

common of the family

turtles. These species

coexist with rays, manta

rays, stingrays and angel

sharks, swordfishes, big

tuna fish or coastal species such as white seabreams, parrot -fishes, goldlines, saddled seabreams, pompanoes,

groupers, blacktail combers, john dories or pollacks.
