Who is BioCision?• Founded in 2007 by drug discovery and biomedical engineering experts• Developing unique solutions to address variability in

temperature- sensitive workflows

Cell cryopreservationCryopreservation is the use of low temperatures to preserve structurally intact living cells to avoid loss by contamination, to minimize genetic change in continuous cell lines and to avoid transformation in finite lines. It is critical to employ standardized procedures that minimize risk of variability and contamination.

Cell cryopreservation workflowHighlighting areas susceptible to variability and contamination

Slowly freeze cells at

-1°C/min rate in ULT freezer

Freeze.

Remove frozen vials from ULT

freezer to long-term storage

Transport.

Store at ULT or cryogenic

temperature

Store.

Retrieve vials from storage

and thaw

Thaw.

Prepare media & cryoprotectant;

add to cells; dispense cell

suspension into vials

Prep.

Solvent-based cell freezingIPA-based containers can introduce variability, require on-going solvent change and disposal

Dry ice & liquid nitrogen transportLack of hand-portable transport solutions that ensure stable temperature control

Water bath thawingHigh risk of contamination, technique-dependent, subjective, and variable endpoints

Cooling with iceIce cannot be used in the hood and is potential source of contamination and variability

Standard cryoboxesLid and base can be separated, labels mixed up, white/beige makes it difficult to identify quickly

Prep: CoolBox™ XT ice-free cooling systemsPrep.

Problem • 0-4°C cooling – without ice, electricity, batteries

• Lasts 10 hours with lid open, 16 hours closed• Well-to well sample uniformity• Ideal for use in cell culture hood• 100 lbs. / day of ice = over 5,000 gallons water(1,2)

and 3,000 kWh of electricity(3) annually7

Freeze: CoolCell® alcohol-free cell freezingFreeze.

Problem

Five consecutive freeze runs show nearly identical thermal profiles

• Isopropanol-free cell freezing -1°C/minute freezing

> Eliminates up to 12L of solvent per unit per year

• Proven for stem cells, primary cells, PBMCs, cell lines, yeast and others 8

Transport: CryoPod™ Carrier cryogenic transportTransport

• 3L of LN2 provides over 4 hours of < -150°C cooling

• Hand-portable, < 20lbs when loaded• No direct contact with LN2

• Optional automated filling station

Store: TruCool™ hinged cryostorage boxesStore.

Problem

• Hinged lid keeps base and lid together• Laminated coating & plastic divider provides

durability• 6 bright colors - facilitates quick in/out of

freezer, reducing strain on compressor10

Problem • Solid-state, algorithm-driven technology

standardizes thawing endpoints• Proven high reproducibility & post-thaw cell

viability for stem cells, PBMC, cell lines, others
