St. John the Baptist Parish Plymouth June 3, 2018 Congratulations to Ryan Dodge and Emma Roy United in Marriage ∞ June 2, 2018 May they enjoy the Blessings of the Sacrament and continue in God’s Love throughout their lives. Wedding Banns III—Henry Lloyd Sitkiewicz and Alexandra Ali Diedrick I look forward to joining St John the Baptist Church Parish and School and St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church staff full time with the start of the new school year. As I finish the program year with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps (JVC) and wrap up my seven years with the organization, my family and I are grateful for the opportunity to move back to the area earlier, settling into the St. John the Baptist rectory this summer. Born and raised in Wisconsin and a graduate of Plymouth High School, I studied Communications during my undergraduate studies at University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. I received my master’s degree from Arcadia University in International Peace and Conflict Resolution. Be- sides all things Wisconsin and Midwest, I am excited to be joining the staff, supporting and bolstering the formation, service, and young adult cultures and opportunities of our parishes, as well as continuing to live my faith in action! Dear Parishioners: I guess I was a little pre-occupied when I drafted last week’s bulletin article. Why would I be looking for a ninetieth birth- day celebration for someone born in 1921 in 1991? I really had checked my 2011 calendar and come up blank! My Aunt Jo- anne died last Sunday evening. I celebrated her Funeral Mass in Indianapolis on Friday. I hope you’ve enjoyed having Fr. John Schreiter back in my absence. Two Wednesdays ago (5/23) I had the honor of attending this year’s graduation ceremony at Cardinal Stritch University for twenty-nine men and women who had completed the two-year certification program in Lay Ministries. For the past two years, these adults had attended classes from 8:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on six Saturdays each semester, studying such subjects as the Old and New Testaments, Church History, Liturgy, Sacraments, Prayer and Spirituality, Christology, and Theology of Church. I was particularly interested in one of the graduates, SJB’s own Bob Steger, wondering how he might put his newly acquired skill set to use in parish ministry. Bob joins the ranks of three other SJB members who’ve graduated from this program: his wife, Mary Steger, Marie Mahan and Jeff Mallmann. Another SJB parishioner, Christine Immel, will be graduating next year. So, I guess the larger question is how to best harness this spiritual dynamism for the good of both of our parishes. We need to work on getting some STA mem- bers into the program at Cardinal Stritch, too. It seems to me that, just with regard to one critically important need, having a cohort of alumni/ae from our two parishes working together might succeed in designing and sustaining a bi-parish adult for- mation dynamic that could be really creative, inspiring, and hard to beat! But that’s still in the future. Elsewhere in this bulletin is a printed introduction to our newest “acquisition” to the pastoral ministry shared by our two parishes: Pastoral Associate for Mission and Discipleship, Ms. Paige Katzfey. Her job descrip- tion is a work in progress, but my hope is that she will help us address a second critically important need: youth ministry – es- pecially post-Confirmation, post-high school, college-age, young adults and newly-weds in the 20-something bracket (retreats, mission trips, service projects, social gatherings, relationship-building, connecting to Church, etc.). Her primary office will be on the first floor in the school building (on the Pleasant Street side), so she may be interacting with the Faith Formation pro- gram and SJB Middle School on special events like retreats and days of refection. Paige will be working part-time during the Summer months, just re-learning the lay of the land and meeting people in SJB and STA, while she continues to work part-time with her current employer, the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, where she serves as Associate Manager for Admissions. (If you want to find out why I am so tickled to have Paige here and excited about her pro- spects as Pastoral Associate for Mission and Discipleship, just google “How Jesuit Volunteer Corps ruins you for life” and pick the tab that refers to the US Catholic magazine article to find out what she’s been doing for the past seven years: two years as a Jesuit Volunteer in Micronesia; four years as JVC Program Coordinator in California and Washington, DC; and the past eighteen months as its Associate Manager!) Alexandra Ali Diedrick

I look forward to joining St John the Baptist Church Parish and School and St

Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church staff full time with the start of the new school

year. As I finish the program year with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps (JVC) and

wrap up my seven years with the organization, my family and I are grateful for

the opportunity to move back to the area earlier, settling into the St. John the

Baptist rectory this summer. Born and raised in Wisconsin and a graduate of

Plymouth High School, I studied Communications during my undergraduate

studies at University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. I received my master’s degree

from Arcadia University in International Peace and Conflict Resolution. Be-

sides all things Wisconsin and Midwest, I am excited to be joining the staff,

supporting and bolstering the formation, service, and young adult cultures and

opportunities of our parishes, as well as continuing to live my faith in action!

Dear Parishioners:

I guess I was a little pre-occupied when I drafted last week’s bulletin article. Why would I be looking for a ninetieth birth-day celebration for someone born in 1921 in 1991? I really had checked my 2011 calendar and come up blank! My Aunt Jo-anne died last Sunday evening.

We need to work on getting some STA mem-bers into the program at Cardinal Stritch, too. It seems to me that, just with regard to one critically important need, having a cohort of alumni/ae from our two parishes working together might succeed in designing and sustaining a bi-parish adult for-mation dynamic that could be really creative, inspiring, and hard to beat!

But that’s still in the future. Elsewhere in this bulletin is a printed introduction to our newest “acquisition” to the pastoral ministry shared by our two parishes: Pastoral Associate for Mission and Discipleship, Ms. Paige Katzfey. Her job descrip-tion is a work in progress, but my hope is that she will help us address a second critically important need: youth ministry – es-pecially post-Confirmation, post-high school, college-age, young adults and newly-weds in the 20-something bracket (retreats, mission trips, service projects, social gatherings, relationship-building, connecting to Church, etc.). Celebrating the Feast Day of our Patron Saint

St. John the Baptist ~ June 23-24 “I baptize with water; but there is one among you whom you do not recognize, the one who is

coming after me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to untie.” John 1: 26-27

St. John the Baptist Sandal Drive

June 9-24, 2018

In recognition of the Feast Day of St. John the Bap-tist our parish is collecting new sandals. The san-dals will be distributed to those in need by Stan’s Footwear. The largest quantity will go to Milwaukee communities but some will also ship overseas through the Soles4Souls organization. Collection boxes are located in the Church Gathering Space.

As the patron saint of our parish, St. John the Baptist will always be special in our Church

family. He points the way to Christ and prepares the people for Jesus. John was entrusted with a unique ministry, yet we, too, are called upon to share the truth of Jesus with others. We

can follow John's example of faithful and obedient trust in God as we live and proclaim His truth in whatever life circumstances God has given us.

St. John the Baptist Parish Social
