TheNutritionEducationCardsandHospitalityTrainingProgramisdesignedoruseby
Caliorniaschooldistrictswishingtoincreasetheamountoruitsandvegetablesoeredin
theschoollunchprogram.
Schoolstudentnutritionserviceemployeesareontherontlineooodserviceorboth
educationandmarketing.Theyrequentlyknoweachchildbynameandhavedailycontact
withthestudents.Thistrainingprogramwasdevelopedtoassistnutritionservicessta
withunderstandingseasonalityoruitsandvegetablesandtheirnutritionalvalueorrolein
Caliorniaagricultureandtoprovideasimple,hospitablewaytosharethisinormationwith
students.
Theprogramhastwoparts:PartIconsistso20cards,eachwithanidentiyingpictureoa
dierentseasonalruitorvegetable,withnutritional,botanical,oragriculturalactsinEnglish
andSpanish.Thesecardsaredesignedtobeputintoapocketorinthecashregisteroreasy
accessandreview.
PartIIconsistsoprotocolsordeliveringfve-minutetrainingsessionsonusingthecards,alongwithhospitalitysuggestionstobeusedinthelunchroomsetting.
The training is based on these premises:
