• Premiere of a new video from CEC with support from Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity and Wildscreen

“It’s not the depressing accounts of the wildlife we are losing that moves us, it’s awe and wonder, enhanced by understanding, that can inspire us to take action. It's love, not loss.”

Positive for the public; Need messages for policy makers

• Messages of loss generate apathy and guilt but not action; Celebrate love of nature as a driver of public behaviour.

• Need messages are the cornerstone of policy and business decisions.

• The book Branding Biodiversity applies marketing to nature to get the results IUCN wants.

• Signed an MOU with the State of Jalisco, Mexico, to promote strategic communication for biodiversity

• Promoted the biodiversity campaigns of the French Committee for IUCN, Futerra, Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, and Wildscreen

Course with IUCN’s Climate Change Coordinator

• Co-sponsored a forum on energy, climate change and national security in Washington

• Participated in an expert climate knowledge management meeting with WMO

• Delivered session at FAO ABDC conference on ‘Empowering public participation in informed decision-making’

• Contributed to Arborvitae special issue, for 2011 International Year of Forests

• Participated in IUCN workshop on greening world economy

• Writing chapter for IUCN Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office on how to influence policy process
