– COTS boards– remote intelligence ,i.e. not on the IOC– Ethernet communication if possible– easily scalable and configurable for

Only 2 solutions were considered

• Delta tau– Not convenient

• Nexeya Midi-ingenierie BMAC– Nexeya is a sound French company– BMAC already used at Irfu– could be used for slits or other

motorisations• Intent on looking at other solutions in the

near future

Delta tau: finally not convenient

• Delta tau: 2 possibilities– UMAC (Power PMAC)

• Independant system with CPU, Ethernet• EPICS support

– Geobrick• A robust support in the EPICS community• A new version with embedded Linux

• can synchonise complex motions for several motors

• too sophisticated for our tuning systems• Furthermore is too expensive

• BMAC board version – BMAC crate can accommodate up to 12

boards (or 4 or …) on the crate– possible control of the motor up to 50 m

cable

• NAC2015-Hxx has been chosen by Guillaume Devanz– The piezo controller system has not been

chosen yet• Requirements

• A multichannels configuration of amplifiers and function generators has to be defined

• 2 solutions are being studied currently– modified amplifier PI E-508.OE– The modifications made are on the voltage and the current:• 220 volts max • peak current 2A • average current 100 mA

Advantages of Irfu/EPICS solutions for stepper motor and piezo

• This architecture solution can be controlled by cPCI or µTCA or … : not control boxes dependant

• Easily scalable solution:– boards on a crate to control motors– modules on a crate to control piezos
