The Secrets of SDX-Plus Superiority

5. HEAVY SECTION CAST DUCTILE HEAD AND NUT The SDX-Plus Idler roll head and nut are heavy section web reinforced ductile castings that are precision machined

for accurate roll and bearing fit. All machining is done in a single set-up to assure uniformity and dimensional accuracy.

4. COMBINATION LIP AND LABYRINTH SEAL The combination of multiple labyrinths and a contact lip seal filled with grease has proven for decades to be the

most effective seal for heavy duty service. The outer labyrinth is formed from mating machined ductile parts which assures a precise close tolerance seal. The lip seal contacts a burnished mirror finish surface to provide maximum seal integrity.

1. GROOVE-LOCK CONNECTION OF MACHINED HEAD AND TUBE

Heads are press fit into the roll and positively locked into position by means of Continental’s groove-lock design. This approach provides a truly concentric roll assembly and perfect bearing alignment for long life operation.

2. RELUBRICATION SYSTEM All bearings are positively greased

from one fitting on either side. The compensating flats provide a metered grease path which equally distributes lubricant to each bearing cavity. The grease enters behind the bearing, washes around the bearing, through the seal, purging the bearing cavity of old grease and any contamination. This positive purge of the bearing cavity prevents excessive back pressure which may blow seals or lock rolls.

3. END POINTED SHAFT The shaft is very precise (within .0005”

tolerance) at the point of contact with the bearing. This minimizes the opportunity for a bearing to turn on the shaft.

A 1¾” diameter shaft, end pointed (tapered) to 1¼” is provided to greatly increase load capacity by decreasing shaft deflection and bearing misalignment. This shaft is standard on all return rolls and on all 42 inch belt width and wider troughing rolls.

SDX-PLUS - CEMA E - SUPER DUTY IDLER

Continental SDX-Plus Series Idlers are offeredfrom 36" belt widths in 20 deg, 35 deg, and 45 deg troughers with equal and extended center roll styles. Troughers are supplementedby rubber disc impacts, self-aligners, transitionsand returns of corresponding sizes in steel, rubber, and urethane discs. Both sealed and regreaseable designs are available.

The SDX-Plus Idler Series is furnished with 6"or 7" diameter rolls equipped with 1 1/4" taperedroller bearings which provide generous load andthrust capacities. Its combination labyrinth andcontact seal has proven to be far superior to thecartridge type or conventional labyrinth sealutilized in so many heavy duty idlers. A 1 3/4" diameter end pointed shaft is furnished onall return rolls and on 42 inch belt width and wider troughing rolls.

The Continental SDX-Plus Series Idlersincorporate many desirable features into a singleunit. For example, the nut surface in contact with the lip seal is burnished to a mirror finish to provide maximum seal life. The labyrinthprotrusion is also machined providing a closetolerance seal when assembled. The right andleft hand thread of the bearing adjusting nutprovides infinite bearing adjustment not possiblewith conventional construction utilizingincremental adjustment.

Rolls are secured in frame slots with a bolt throughthe bearing adjusting nut lug. Rolls are interchangable and replacement is accomplishedindividually without disassembly of the bracket.

The Super B from Continental Conveyor is designed to provide the ultimate in CEMA B idler performance. Years of development, lab testing, and field testing have gone into this exceptional product. The Super B roll utilizes a non-corrosive, Engineered Polymer head that drastically reduces noise, roll weight, and material build-up. The 30mm ball bearing CEMA D and 40mm ball bearing CEMA E rated idler rolls are available with “open” or “2RS factory sealed” bearings. HX™ Series idler rolls are also available in a wide range of application-specific bearing and seal designs, in belt widths ranging from 18” to 72” for HX-30 and 36” to 120” for HX-40. Consult your Continental representative for the idler roll that will best meet your individual requirements.

By supporting the conveyor belt and cushioning it against the shock of heavy loads and impact, the Continental impact bed extends belt life and thereby reduces downtime. UHMW polyethylene bars allow the conveyor belt to slide easily with virtually no additional drag. Its modular design allows multiple units to be closely fitted to form the bed length needed (three shown).
