Conventions : Title of album Artist name Image of band Analysis: Performance - In this album cover for the ‘Kooks’ shows the band maybe practicing their songs. None of the band members are looking at the camera, this could show that they’re not as involved with their audiences unlike most bands and artists. This also, to me, comes across as quite shy because they have their hair over their face and heads are down. This could also show the Rock style as most rock artists and bands have long hair and flick it around quite a bit. Design - The image on the front cover is in black and white, this contrasts with the titles and makes them stand out and noticeable because they are a bright red colour. Also the fact that they used black and white adds to the rock and roll lifestyle and is quite edgy. In the image the band artists look quite laid back which then contrasts with the meaning of the black and white colouring. Mise En Scene - The ‘Kooks’ are dressed quite darkly in black or dark greys. Dark colours usually represent something negative and depressing. This works well because they are a rock band and many rock bands are recognised in that way. The image that has been caught of them seems to be pretty relaxed and in a calm environment. It looks as though they are in a sitting room, just ‘hanging out’. This then tells the audience that what they are doing now is something

Analysis:

Performance - In this album cover for the ‘Kooks’ shows the band maybe practicing their songs.

This then tells the audience that what they are doing now is something they would do on an average day.

Camera work – The shot used in their album is a wide shot. This shows all the band members and shows who plays what instrument. It also gives us an insight of how the band put themselves across to their target audience. As well as showing the band members it shows us the scenery and where they are.

Back of Album analysis:

Design – The black and white effect has been used again on the back of the CD album. The image that has been used on the back is from the drummers point of view.. They decided to put the barcode and list of songs at the top of the album because there was free space and seems like they didn’t want to ruin the image they are putting across.

Mise En Scene - The mise en scene has stayed the same as the front cover, they are all still in a sitting room with their heads down relaxing to their own music.

Camerawork - Everything is blurred out in the wide shot apart from the drummers drum. This shows me that the drummer now stands out for once, because in a band the drummer is always at the back and doesn’t get as much attention as the other band members. The fact that they made the image from his point of view made him stand out and shows that he is just as important as the others in the band

The spine of the Album shows the title and band name so that its visible to see to anyone buying their product.

The band is founded by the record label ‘Virgin Records’ it is a British record label founded by English entrepreneur Richard Branson, Simon Draper, Nik Powell and Tom Newman in 1972. The company grew to be a worldwide music phenomenon.
