On the Cover:Dominica’s Ambassador at Large Dr. Bobby JonesIn March of 2006, news outlets in the United States reported that gospel music icon Dr. Bobby Jones was appointed by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit to the post of ambassador at large of Dominica. Congratulations.

As Ambassador, Jones is “authorized to negotiate on Dominica’s behalf (in the) procurement and financing of projects with the potential for carrying forward the economic and infrastructural development program of the government of Dominica.”

Dr. Bobby Jones has been with BET since the company started in 1980. He dominates Sunday programming as the host and executive producer of Bobby Jones Gospel, and producer of Video Gospel. Kee, Yolanda Adams, The Canton Spirituals, Hezekiah Walker and more.

Increased Fatigue and Shortness of Breath May be Heart Failure

Today we will start a serious discussion on heart failure. Heart failure is a clinical syndrome characterized by signs and symptoms resulting from a failure of the cardiovascular system to adequately receive and/or deliver blood to the body at rest or during exercise.

Death from cardiovascular reasons is the number one cause of all deaths in the United States. Although all other cardiovascular disease prevalence and incidence are decreasing, heart failure is the only one that is increasing in both prevalence and incidence. The rising incidence of heart failure is related to several factors like the increased survivability of people who have heart attacks and an aging population. Although people are surviving heart attacks more because of improved treatments, the heart attack often damages the left ventricle which is the main pumping chamber. The five-year

survivability rates for heart failure are only 50 percent.

The death rate from heart failure has increased 35 percent in the past 25 years. Unfortunately, the diagnosis and treatment of heart failure are often delayed because many people do not recognize the early symptoms of increased feelings of tiredness or fatigue and shortness of breath. Many people consider these symptoms a part of getting older and do not seek immediate attention. If you or someone you know have coronary artery disease, have had a heart attack, or have risk factors for coronary artery disease (history of smoking, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol, positive family history of heart disease) and start to experience increased feelings of tiredness or fatigue and shortness of breath, then seek or get your loved one to seek medical evaluation. Please do not overlook the early symptoms.

In the next issue we will continue on our discussion on heart failure, other signs and symptoms, and its morbidity.

Old-fashioned Tomato PiePie Crust1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour1/4 cup cold vegetable shortening, cut into pieces4 Tbsp cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces1/2 tsp. fine sea salt3 to 4 Tbsp ice-cold water

Filling2 1/4 assorted heirloom tomatoes, thinly sliced1 1/4 tsp. kosher salt, divided1 sweet onion, chopped1 1/4 tsp. freshly ground pepper, divided1 Tbsp. canola oil1/2 cup assorted chopped fresh herbs (such as chives, parsley, and basil)1/2 cup freshly grated Gruyere cheese1/2 cup freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese1/4 cup mayonnaise

1. Prepare Pie Crust: Process first 4 ingredients in a food processor until mixture resembles coarse meal. With processor running, gradually add 3 Tbsp. ice-cold water, 1 Tbsp. at a time and process until dough forms a ball and leaves sides of bowl, adding up to 1 Tbsp. more water if necessary. Shape dough into a disk, and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill 30 minutes.

2. Unwrap dough, and place on a lightly floured surface; sprinkle lightly with flour. Roll dough to a 1/8-inch thickness.

3. Preheat oven to 425〫Press dough into a 9-inch pie plate. Trim dough 1 inch larger than diameter of pie plate; fold overhanging dough under itself along rim of pie plate. Chill 30 minutes or until firm.

4. Line pie crust with aluminum foil; fill with pie weights or dried beans. (This will keep the crust from bubbling up.) Place on an aluminum foil-lined baking sheet.

5. Bake at 425 for 20 minutes. Remove weights and foil. Bake 5 minutes or until browned. Cool completely on baking sheet on a wire rack (about 30 minutes). Reduce oven temperature to 350.

6. Prepare Filling: Place tomatoes in a single layer on paper towels; sprinkle with 1 tsp. salt. Let stand 10 minutes.

7. Meanwhile, saute onion and 1/4 tsp. each salt and pepper in hot oil in a skillet over medium heat 3 minutes or until onion is tender.

8. Pat tomatoes dry with with a paper towel. Layer tomatoes, onion, and herbs in prepared crust, seasoning each layer with pepper (1 tsp. total). Stir together cheeses and mayonnaise; spread over pie.

9. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until lightly browned.

Keep a SecretHello it's Robyn. So in my article we will be talking about keeping a secret. When someone tells youa secret they expect for you to keep it; and when you tell someone that secret, they will add to it.Next time you tell a secret think about others.

Until the next time,

Robyn Gordon

Vision, Belief and Determinationby  Tamika  Christian

In 2005, Treva Gordon and her husband had a GOD inspired vision to start their very own business. The Clarksville Convenient Shopper Magazine was then birthed into Clarksville, TN. The Convenient Shopper started with lots of faith and of course a business plan. This God-given idea was filled with big faith, but no money in the bank. The Gordon’s had to pre-sell all of their advertisements in advance. Initially this was ran by only two people; of which were the Gordon’s. It was hard work, but they believed that if GOD blessed them with this vision then it will take GOD to make this vision successful.

In 2007, GOD opened another door of opportunity and the Gordon’s established there parent company, CCS Publications. In 2007, this power-packed couple had CCS Publications launched as its second magazine called Fort Campbell MWR BOSS Magazine (Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers). CCS Published this magazine for three years. In 2009, the company changed its name officially to CCS. Today this company is comprised of several independent contractors publishing thousands of magazines to the Clarksville, Fort Campbell and now in 2012 the Nashville area. This magazine has reached out to many organizations, churches, mentor programs, soldiers, prisons and many more in the community. Filled with inspiration, motivation and life application this magazine has helped people of the community to make changes within their lives. From helping the homeless to providing awareness of current community needs this magazine company has proven to be more than a book to read. Events such as Unity Day; celebration of community leaders and non-profit organizations and donation drives to help give aid to the women’s prison, or benefit concerts to aid churches in need; this magazine shows strong signs of bigger and better progression for years to come. Happy 7th year anniversary to you CC Shopper!! And may there be many more to come.

It is that time of year when everyone thinks of landscaping….and the cost of landscaping. This can put a dent in anyone’s budget. So here are a few tips to keep more cash in your wallet. We have all seen the poor little droopy plants on

the markdown racks at various stores and think, “why would anyone buy those sad looking things?” Most stores are very good at getting rid of plants that are diseased, so these types of plants are not usually marked down. The plants that are have just been neglected a little, usually they are under watered and/or root bound. Two easily fixed problems! So experiment a little…buy these plants. When you get them home give them a nice drink of water before you plant them. If they are root bound gently pull apart the roots and spread them out. Plant. Give another generous drink of water. For about the next week make sure you water them thoroughly every day. You should see a dramatic improvement. If you want more bang for your buck, look for mark down perennials, they will give you a great look year after year.

Dr. Larry RobertsonSenior Pastor at Hilldale Baptist Church, Clarksville, TN

How are you Dr. Larry?I am blessed beyond what I deserve! God has been especially gracious to me...I'm married to a beautiful lady;

I have two great daughters; and I pastor the greatest church in America.

Talk about your ministry and what is taking place at Hilldale?Well, as you know, I celebrated ten years as Senior Pastor of Hilldale Baptist Church back in June. And across this last decade, we've seen some incredibly exciting things happen. (I could talk for hours about the past, so let me just focus on the present.) Hilldale is at an exciting time in our history. With three Sunday morning worship services on two campuses, attendance is healthy and growing. We've had a strong year of conversions and baptisms. We're currently planting two congregations in Clarksville--The Way and New Life Deaf Church--and partnering with two other church plants in New York City and Cleveland, OH.

A few years ago, we determined that we were going to be more intentional about "Turning the Church Inside-Out." In other words, we're prioritizing getting off our seats and into the shoes (and lives) of non-Christians. We're always looking for opportunities to connect for Christ and plant the seeds of the Gospel. Some of our activities are more confrontational in

nature; others are more about earning the right to be heard.

With our Family Life Center, we're able to utilize the common language of recreation to reach out to our community. This past season of Hilldale Hoops (our children's basketball & cheerleading ministry), for instance, was maxed out with 650 kids involved. We have activities all year and for all ages, but anything that reaches the hearts of children fires me up like little else!

You better stop me or you might have more than you have space to print! Ha!

We are thankful for Hilldale being a part of our community and for welcomingthe community to church on Unity Day?  What did that day mean to you?We were privileged to be this year's host for Unity Day. For me, I saw Unity Day as a great opportunity to come together across racial and denominational lines to celebrate what we hold in common in our faiths and in our community. The faith community of Clarksville/Montgomery County--with its rich history and diversity--is incredibly significant. I know the talking heads debate the role of the Church in today's public square, but I'd hate to see what our nation would look like without the contributions of people of faith. Indisputably, believers are the backbone for charitable works. People of faith are on the front lines in times of disaster and ongoing missions of mercy alike. Unity Day was an

opportunity to celebrate ministries that are making an eternal difference.

What keeps you grounded?Wow. That's a good question. I'm married to the most wonderful woman on the planet. She keeps me grounded. I come home on Sundays sometimes floating on cloud nine, tempted to believe everything people told me on the way out of church. When I walk through the door, she reminds me that I need to take out the garbage. I love how real my bride is! And my two daughters take after their Momma in keepin' it real.

But I also believe that never forgetting that I'm just a sinner saved by gave keeps me grounded. I am nothing; Jesus is everything! I'm so grateful to be saved and called to serve My Lord in vocational ministry. I'm not perfect, not by a long shot, but every day with Christ is such an adventure.

What would you like our readers to know about your church? We're just real people connecting real faith to real life. We're not the only church in town, we know that. And we're not the only church seeking to faithfully preach and practice the Gospel. But we do strive to have a heart for God's Word, to exercise authentic worship, and to be on mission for our Savior. 86% of Montgomery County is unchurched; that translates into enough work to keep all our churches busy 'til Jesus comes back! So we're privileged to be one church within an army of many making a difference for Christ.

Unity Highlights: Larry has served Hilldale Baptist Church as Senior Pastor since the summer of 2002. He is a native West Tennessean, having been born and raised in Savannah. He and his wife, Beth, fell in love during college and were married in 1988. Since then they’ve been blessed with two daughters: Morgan (‘93) and Rebecca (‘95). Larry surrendered into the gospel ministry in 1982 at the age of fifteen and hasn’t looked back since. His ministry passions are preaching the Word of God and equipping the Body of Christ for the work of evangelism. He began pastoring his first church—Faith Baptist Church of Hickory Flat, Mississippi—when he was nineteen years old. He has also served Hopewell Baptist Church of Savannah, Tennessee (his home church) as associate pastor and Steep Hollow Baptist Church of Poplarville, Mississippi as pastor. Larry spent a year and a half as an Evangelism Assistant in the Evangelism Office of the Alabama Baptist State Board of Missions. He then transitioned to the Tennessee Baptist Convention as the State Evangelism Specialist (the position formerly known as director of evangelism) where he served for three years. Larry graduated from Blue Mountain College in Blue Mountain, Mississippi with a Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in biblical studies and mathematics (‘88). He received two degrees from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary: Master of Divinity (‘94) and Doctor of Philosophy in Evangelism (‘00). To relax, Larry enjoys reading, watching movies, and Monday morning breakfasts with Beth at Cracker Barrel. He also has a secret, seldom-discussed desire to own a Harley–Davidson…but that will probably have to wait until after the girls finish college.

Testimonial Yolanda MorganPastor, Author, Recording Artist, Motivational Speaker

Interviewed by Treva Gordon

of Pastor Angela R. Jones

June 4, 2008 marks a day that my life was painfully and drastically changed

forever. It was the day that my husband, the late Pastor Raliegh A. Jones, Sr. of nearly 25 years transitioned from this earth to glory. It was unexpected, and we had not received any preparation time. But are you ever really prepared for the death of a loved one?

Loosing a spouse is more than just loosing the person. There are secrets and a friendship shared just between the two of you. Through years of marriage, your spouse becomes your soul-mate because of the love and the bond that runs so deep. When that spouse leaves from this earthly realm, there is a severing and tearing away of the heart that can only be repaired in the hands of Jesus, the Chief Physician. Even as I walked and prayed in the “quiet room” of the hospital, I felt the presence of God Almighty. He wiped my tears and momentarily drenched me with an outpouring of the Spirit. I literally felt warm oil flow from my head to my toes. I knew that whatever happened past that point, no matter how painful, God was definitely in control. Part of the grieving process in losing a mate also includes learning how to function by yourself again, caring for children, the house, the bills, and just adjusting to life as a single adult. Some people may complain about what your husband or wife is not doing. But just try losing them and you will find out that they were more to you than you could ever imagine. Immediately, we (the Greenhill Church and my children) went into 40 days of prayer. During those 40 days, I was led by God to meditate on Isaiah 54. Verse 5 stood out to me the most. It reads: “For your Maker is your husband, the Lord of hosts is His name; and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel. He is called the God of the whole earth.” There are six names, all of which are in bold letters, which describe the awesome power of God and His relationship to us. As I meditated on each of these names, I felt stronger each day. My testimony is that I know my Redeemer lives. I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME. He is my protector and provider. God is able to give you peace, joy, and even great expectations for a wonderful future in the middle of the storm. He does want His children to live, laugh and love! Just trust Him for your healing. He's able! Angela Jones is the Senior Pastor of The Greenhill Church, founder of Women of Purpose Ministry Institute, CEO of The Greenhill Human Development Corporation, and the 2012 G.M.C.A. Clarksville Pastor of the year. She has recently retired from the Ft. Campbell School System to pursue full-time ministry.

CHRISTIAN WISDOM “A MOTHERʼS LOVE” by Tamika Christian

One day I just had to call my mother to say, "YOU are AWESOME!" There was a time in my life when I thought I was "TOP CROP". I thought my mother knew nothing about my life because mine was so different from hers. I thought she had never walked in my footsteps before. Years later,

GOD has opened my eyes and has shown me who I was, who I am now, and more importantly; who my mother has always been. My mother is STRONG, LOVING, NUTURING, and has a discerning spirit that only GOD could give her. My mother has loved me through my many battles, tended my wounds, and embraced my disparities. She knew early on what barriers I would encounter and she prepared for them.

The Bible says, "And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart." Luke 2:51

Every time something was prophesied to Mary about JESUS, "she kept all the saying in her heart". Mary knew that one day all things would come to pass. What are you treasuring in your heart?

Saints in “ALL” things, be grateful to GOD for he has truly blessed you.

PARTNERING TO HIRE AMERICA'S SONS AND DAUGHTERS WHO SERVED THEIR COUNTRY PROUDLY

The Fort Campbell, Kentucky Army Career and Alumni Program, better known as ACAP, is responsible for transitioning all Soldiers out of the Army at the end of their service obligation or upon retirement. In order to be successful in their mission, ACAP works both ends of the Veteran unemployment problem by actively teaching Soldiers to market themselves with quality resume and interview skills, while simultaneously working to bring employers on-site to connect with Soldiers. Every Wednesday is a mini Job Fair at the ACAP Center where between seven and ten local, national and international companies converge on Fort Campbell to meet with transitioning Soldiers and their Families. ACAP also conducts two huge two-day Job Fairs per year, each hosting 120 companies. Fort Campbell's next international/National Job Fair is scheduled for September 19th and their Local Job Fair will be conducted September 20th. ACAP's last job fair saw 2700 job seekers and was lauded by every employer who participated. ACAP hiring events are advertised in four local newspapers, via email to their 2000+ clients and through their Facebook site at www.facebook.com/FortCampbellACAP. Whether you are a local, national or international company, Fort Campbell ACAP can connect you with America's treasure, our sons and daughters, who served their country proudly and are now returning to the civilian job market.America is the greatest country in the world, because of the actions of our Veterans who make up less than one percent of the American population. If your company is interested in hiring highly qualified Veterans and their Family members, those who honorable served their nation in time of war, contact Harold Riggins, Director of the Fort Campbell ACAP Program, at 270-798-6507/6410. To participate in ACAP's September Job Fairs, contact Brittany Williams at 270-798-5000.
