Soon the oceanfront will be dotted with tourists soaking up the sun by day and fi lling restaurants, bars and hotel rooms by night – which means plenty of jobs openings in the hospitality industry right now.

“I would say we roughly double our hourly staff during our peak season from Memorial Day to Labor Day,” estimates Johanna Heidler, an HR specialist with Gold Key/PHR Hotels and Resorts.

Since the hospitality industry runs 24/7, these opportunities are especially attractive to those who need a work schedule that accommodates family schedules or other needs, with both part-time or full-time openings, day or evening shifts, even weekends only.

Best of all, these jobs encompass a diverse range of skills, experience levels and interests. A large resort and hotel chain like Gold Key/PHR, for instance, will hire everyone from hostesses, bartenders, servers, server assistants and cooks for their food and beverage operations, to housekeepers, front desk people, engineering staff, pool attendants

and maintenance personnel to help care for hotel guests. “There are a lot of seasonal sales and marketing opportunities as well,” adds Heidler.

“And though a lot of people think of us as a seasonal employer, we are a large employer year-round. A lot of our people move into full-time career positions that ultimately lead to supervisory and management roles.”
