I am very much happy to present this Annual Report of Center for Catalyzing Community (CCC) for the year of 2009-10. CCC is totally a non-profit, non political organization working in the areas of Khurda District.

The enthusiastic team of CCC is totally dedicated towards the change in quality of life in Rural Areas of Orissa. I am extremely lucky of getting this opportunity to serve people, especially the slum dwellers and exchange thoughts with them.

CCC has crossed its infant stage and is now at the threshold of adult stage. The journey from infant to adult stage has been full of experience and with the rich experience gathered, CCC is now venturing upon touching each and every section of the society. This year, we have undertaken many activities reflected in this Annual Report. In the absence of external financial support, the local people and the institutions were a great help. I am very much thankful to the members of CCC for their support to go ahead.

While presenting this Annual Report of 2009-10, I take this opportunity to thank all those people, staff of CCC, who worked in the most adverse condition to make all our programmes and projects successful. My special thanks to the Director of CCC who is also the Chief Functionary of our Society, without whose sincere efforts it would not have been possible.

Thanks a lot.

Voluntarism has no satisfying limit. True to the saying we at CCC feel that despite many achievements of the Organization in various fields still a lot has been left out which could be taken up in a meaningful way. 2002-2009 provided the ideal opportunity for CCC to showcase the service projects in different Districts. It witnessed some activities in some areas of social work. We tried to strengthen the foundation that we laid in each year by carefully taking up the projects in a systematic manner.

The small effort that was started in the middle part of 2002 has grown to a magnified proportion in terms of activities, if not in terms of expenditure. We are thankful to Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, Govt. of Orissa, Ministry of Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Dept., Govt. of Orissa., Planning Commission SER Division, Govt. of India, National Council for Women, Govt. of India. For extending their support by providing us with funds to carry out our purpose

Income Generation Programme for Slum Women

“You can tell the condition of nation by looking at the status of the women’

“In order to awaken the people, it is the women who have to be awakened. Once she is on the move, The household moves, The village moves, The country moves and thus we build the India of Tomorrow’’-Jawaharlal Nehru.

Thus it is evident that the development of India depends upon the empowerment of women. Over the years the phenomenon of women SHGs has been largely responsible for the sustained and rapid economic development of the rural as well as urban women. Women’s skill and knowledge, their talents and abilities in business, and their compelling desire to do something positive are some of the reasons of associating them with a project named “Project Roti” to empower them and make them self sustainable.

Page 17: ccc.org.inccc.org.in/images/CCC Activity Report- 2009-10.docx · Web viewMedicinal plants like Brahmi,Aloe-vera,Amla,Bidanga,Haldi and Tulsi were planted at Gopabandhu UGME School,

“Project Roti” in brief, is the sage of Indian women’s long and circuitous journey from emancipation, to being agents of change through self empowerment. The country’s concern in safeguarding the rights and privileges of women found best expression in the constitution of India, covering fundamental Rights & Directive principles of state Police.

From the Fifth Five Year Plan on wards, there has been a marked shift in the approach to women’s issue from welfare to Development and in recent years, the Empowerment of women has been recognized as the central issues determining the status of women.

Women Empowerment has come to mean different things to different people. For some it means social mobilization around women’s concerns, for others it means a change in women’s state of mind and for others it means gaining access to the bases of social power. It has been interpreted as the freedom for women to choices, it is a sense of security from physical violence, it is self reliance, it is participation in decision making, it is the awareness of women of their rights, responsibilities and

Page 18: ccc.org.inccc.org.in/images/CCC Activity Report- 2009-10.docx · Web viewMedicinal plants like Brahmi,Aloe-vera,Amla,Bidanga,Haldi and Tulsi were planted at Gopabandhu UGME School,

Options, it is gaining control of one’s life, it is a process of recognizing and building upon one’s innate capacities to allow them to participate in their own as well as families development.

But all said and done, gaining financial ability remains the major source of Empowerment of Women.

And Center for Catalyzing Community (CCC), a state based Voluntary Organization, has pioneered various development activities, particularly in Women Empowerment strategies through Self Help Group formation, motivating the women on savings and thrift and making them fully involved in economic activities through Micro-Credit and Micro-Finance as Government has provided larger space for women Self-Help groups in its strategy for poverty alleviation and women empowerment.

The strategy evolved by CCC for empowering the members of the WSHGs was based on the premise that Self-Help implies a step further from the stage of passivity to activity and making a creative contribution, the Group is not a static Institution, rather it grows on the resource and management skill of its members, the benefits of Self help Groups are based on the cooperation rather than competition and it helps in accelerating economic growth and creating an environment for ensuring spread effect of growth, particularly for poverty alleviation.

Page 19: ccc.org.inccc.org.in/images/CCC Activity Report- 2009-10.docx · Web viewMedicinal plants like Brahmi,Aloe-vera,Amla,Bidanga,Haldi and Tulsi were planted at Gopabandhu UGME School,

“Project Roti”- Our long association with Women Self Help Groups has convinced us that Women SHGs have become a reality and it is a real challenge which the women have taken up with an urge to do something new and take up an independent occupation. Over the years the phenomenon of Women’s skill and knowledge, their talents and abilities in business, and their compelling desire to do something positive are some of the reasons of associating them in ‘Project Roti’.

‘Project Roti’ conceived in the line of famous “dabbawalas” project in Mumbai is an attempt to involve members of Women Self Help Groups in the project which, inter alia, aims at providing cooked food to the office goers of the temple City of Bhubaneswar, to start with. Financed by Indian Bank, Laxmisagar Branch of Bhubaneswar, the project aims at providing cooked food at competitive price to different hostels, MNCs etc. the members of the women self help groups specially trained.
