Cross Cultural Connection 4 August 2014 Newsletter
Dear Prayer Partners and Supporters,
You may note that this newsletter is a few days late. My “excuses” are within the newsletter. I will specify the first two and then you can figure out the others. Ha! 1. My daughter Sara and two girls, Jennifer and Makayla, were here until Yesterday, August 3. 2. Eye surgery recovery. Sara and her two girls were here for two weeks. It was a whirlwind of activity, a homecoming for Sara and sightseeing for Jennifer and Makayla. I was glad that Scott lives nearby and organized the sightseeing. There are pictures on the next page for you to see and for those who have facebook, you can see a lot more pics on my page. We walked a lot, ate a lot and laughed a lot. It was good that Scott’s family could enjoy this visit as well. Scott took Sara and Makayla hiking one day, while Jennifer and I were smart enough to stay home. Sara got her Workout Of the Day (WOD for you CrossFit people). We all enjoyed the sights of Hong Kong together: Ocean Park, The Peak, Ladies Street Market, Shek O Beach, and a few other places. 2. Eye recovery. I am no longer under “face-‐down” restriction. I still have a small gas bubble in my eye which is getting smaller day by day. Still using eye drops. My next appointment is August 28. I may get fitted for new glasses at that time. The bubble is low in my vision and not such a nuisance as it was. I have put away the massage board, but my room is not back to normal as I have several things to put away yet. Thank you for your prayers in this recovery time. David Poling is recovered enough from his hip surgery to be using a cane instead of a walker or wheelchair. The English camp was good. The theme was “ Hungry”, the emphasis being on Matthew 4:4. My granddaughter, Jasmyn, was a bit fearful of attending because she did not know anyone, but she had a great time and met a new friend. One of our church members recently spent 10 days with Marilyn Cook in South Africa. Dorothy showed her slides and spoke during the message time yesterday at church. I told Dorothy that I was jealous because she got to visit with Marilyn! Speaking of Africa, Al Corson of Insight International will be here on Sept. 2. We will be making plans to go to the Philippines for a mission trip. Jim Mollette will return August 27th for the teaching year at Chinese Christian Seminary. Jason Nichols, also of Insight International, will be here in October. I need to make some changes in my apartment so as to provide places for them to stay. Our church building is also available. It seems that I did not “do” much in way of missionary things this past month, but I have been able to provide a listening ear to a couple of friends who are going through some tough experiences. While lying face-‐down, I was not worried about having to cook, clean, or go somewhere, so I felt free to spend several hours on the phone with these two friends. These past few weeks remind me of this verse: John 15:4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
I am also reminded of a song I heard that is a prayer for God to “Find Us Faithful” by Jon Mohr: “O may all who come behind us find us faithful; May the fire of our devotion light their way. May the foot prints that we leave Lead them to believe, And the lives we live inspire them to obey. O may all who come behind us find us faithful. “ It is your prayers and support that help to keep me faithful. My prayer is that Faithfulness will be at the core of our beings! In His mighty power and love, Linda
