Welcome to Week 8 of Term 4
Part of the Department of Education’s commitment to rural and remote education is the creation of Aurora College. Aurora College is a ‘virtual’ secondary school, and is a new and unique secondary option for students in rural and remote areas and offers the chance to study specialist subjects using the latest technology. It will also allow our school to further broaden the variety of curriculum on offer. Students connect with their peers and their teachers through lessons delivered virtually, through technology. Mentoring opportunities and master classes are key features of the learning experience and it also offers students the chance to stay connected locally while developing their passion for subjects and courses that link to their career plans and broaden their post school options. We are excited to announce that Declan Evans (Physics) and Laura Mannes (English, Mathematics and Science) will commence Aurora College in 2018 at Coleambally Central School. Congratulations Declan and Laura!
Year 4/5 Class Movies Last week Mr Watt’s Year 4/5 class completed filming of their class movies using I Pads and a filming making ‘app’. The movies were screened at last Friday’s Primary Assembly to rapturous applause and the enjoyment of all in the audience. Characters created by students included ninja’s, zombies and school trespassers and all the movies included a title, soundtrack, credits and text to accompany the storyline. Well done everyone, they were fantastic!
Primary Captain’s Speeches Year 5 students who have nominated for election as a primary captain in 2018 will present their speeches at an assembly on Monday, 11 December 2017. Elections for primary captains will take place during that day. More details in next week’s newsletter.
Year 5/6 Canberra Excursion The Year 5/6 students departed for Canberra this morning for a ‘jam-packed’ four days. Highlights will include visits to the Australian War Museum and Parliament House. We are sure that students will return tired but happy, with many anecdotes to tell on their adventure. We look forward to their return on Friday.
Primary Intensive Swimming A reminder to parents and carers that that the Primary Intensive Swimming program commences next Tuesday, 5 December 2017. Students who do not have a season ticket will be required to pay for admission to the pool each day. Parents and carers are asked to assist with organisation by ensuring permission notes are returned promptly.

Primary SRC On Tuesday, November 14, the Primary SRC held a junior cake stall to raise funds for Westmead Children's Hospital. The idea was initiated by Pia Fattore and some of her Year 4 friends, with the SRC helping supply cakes to sell. I'd like to thank those students and their parents for generously supplying the meringues, cakes and other items on the day.
We raised $105 for the hospital, which will be used to make the lives of sick children a little happier. Thank you to all the people who helped make the stall a success. Mrs Lothian
