Young women today are looking for assistance not only for the circumstances that they find themselves in, but they are also seeking an avenue of compassionate communication with trained individuals who are non-judgmental and who are interested in their overall welfare as well as the welfare of the new life they are carrying. Our vision is to create a culture where lives are transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ and every woman is afforded the opportunity to choose life for herself and her unborn child. The Learning for Life Program offered at the Center is an “earn while you learn” program where clients choose educational videos from a list of pregnancy, childbirth, child rearing and spiritual DVDs. Through one on one sessions with trained peer counselors, clients gain valuable knowledge and can earn either a brand new crib and mattress, a pack and play, a stroller or a highchair. In addition to the Learning for Life program we have a Blessing Closet where our clients can get diapers, baby wipes, new and gently used clothing and other items for their child up to the age of two. New clients receive a mom’s or dad’s bag which contain personal care items and a Bible. We want every client to feel special and see the hope and love of Jesus Christ in every peer counselor and volunteer that serve at the Center. In 2010, the Lockport CareNet Pregnancy Center celebrated its 25th anniversary of serving the community of the greater

Lockport area and Niagara County with a record 1172 client visits. On April 5, 2011, the Center opened the doors of a larger facility just two doors down at 229 East Avenue in Lockport, which is coincidentally two doors west of its previous location. Lockport CareNet is a Christ-centered ministry whose mission is to speak the truth in love as we assist with the spiritual, emotional, and material needs of men and women facing pregnancy related decisions.

Our volunteer organization provides free pregnancy tests, compassionate peer counseling, truthful resources, material support and educational classes for girls, women and men

who find themselves in unplanned pregnancies.

In addition to the Learning for Life program we have a Blessing Closet

where our clients can get diapers, baby wipes, new and gently used clothing and other items for their child up to the age of two. New clients receive a mom’s or dad’s bag which contain personal care items and a Bible. We want every client to feel special and see the hope and love of Jesus Christ in every peer counselor and volunteer that serve at the Center.

There are many ways that you can partner with the mission and vision of CareNet. We ask you to take the time to explore our work and discover the many opportunities that exist for you to support our efforts.

PRAY:  CareNet firmly believes that prayer is the life-blood of our ministry. Please lift our work and the work of our local centers up in prayer.

DONATE:  As a non-profit organization, CareNet relies on the generosity of individual supporters and private foundations to carry out our mission. Churches and organizations can also consider hosting baby showers for the Center.

VOLUNTEER:  CareNet centers are reliant on volunteers to carry out their important work and provide needed services to their local communities. A 21-hour training course is required to work with clients and this will be offered in July. If anyone is interested they can call the office at 434-1771 For more details or find out more about the Center, please visit our website at www.lockportcarenet.com.

As Churches and not-for-profits seek to grow/sustain their ministries, outreach and missions; new ways to fund and develop programs are needed. With the demands of time and money needed to truly grow said programs, many not-for-profits are restricted by time and budgets which can

limit or kill the effort. Many not-for-profit groups hold additional fundraisers, initiate appeals, and/or ask for donations, at a time when their supporters are becoming more and more limited in the resources they can offer.

Market America (www.mad2marketing.com), a leading Internet

shopping portal has recently launched a new program for 501c not-for-profit organizations (NPOs) and churches in Western New York. It’s a way for non-profit organizations to convert their supporter’s needs into supporting the cause, the mission and the vision of your organization.

Supporters will have the opportunity to get discounts on what they are already buying and help support the nonprofit organization at the same time! The program is FREE with very nominal effort required by the participating organization. Management is handled by a local Market America representative, who will become your liaison to manage and administer the program.

The organization will be given a branded (name of organization identified throughout) shopping website, whereby their members can shop at a variety of stores, specialty shops and well established businesses. Very simply, the members shop on-line as they have in the past, with a percentage

of their purchases (in the form of a royalty) going back to the organization. The unique thing is that a member will be offered the same (or better) pricing as if they shopped direct! In addition, there are extra incentives such as cash back and extended discounts that are not traditionally offered at the retailer site.

THERE IS NO COST OR OBLIGATION FOR

ESTABLISHING A BRANDED PORTAL!

With thousands of on-line retailers represented and with a variety of millions of products, the website becomes a fund generating vehicle, with no additional time and resource demands. The portal is NOT just a website: It is your entry to the Internet (like MSN or AOL). Your organization’s shopping

website  (branded Portal) offers the “Ultimate Shopping Experience”, with social networking, 3,500+ Partner Stores (including virtually all the stores that your supporters currently shop at), and over 35 Million products. The search engines – facilitated by Microsoft and Google – offer comparison shopping, savings via store promotions, “Hot Deals” and additional discounts via Deal Feeds. A few of the features of the organizational Portal and shopping site include:

• 3,500+ Partner Stores

• Over 35 Million

Products & Services

• Comparison Shopping

• Quick, Accurate Product & Content Search

• Hot Deals & Recommendations

• Gift Cards & Certificates

• Cash Back Program

• Market America Travel

• Exclusive Market America Products and Discounts

It should be noted that quite a few groups utilize SCRIP programs

as a means to generate funds. The Market America/not-for-profit website portal can enhance your program. SCRIP gift cards CAN be used at check-out at many stores on the website. In this case, your organization would get the percentage from SCRIP, points toward a royalty check from the website, and your supporters would get cash back - just by having them redeem their SCRIP Card on-line.

This is truly a new

and unique way to generate resources without asking for immediate funds from donors and members. Simply ask them to do their on-line shopping through your website link. A local Market America NPO representative can discuss, review and present this offering to your group. For further information, general questions, or to get your organization registered, call Judy or Gary Rodriguez at 716-434-5847.

Jesus and Me (J.AM.)First Baptist Church in

Lockport has a storied program that reaches into the community “Jesus and Me (J.AM.)”. J.A.M. began in the mid-80’s as childcare for church Bible Study each Wednesday night. Then in the late 80’s, we began to invite neighborhood children and J.AM. began as a ministry for children. The initial ministry was well received by the community.

In 1990, the name was changed to “Adventure Club” with weekly attendance of over 100 children. The children were divided into two groups, the K-2nd graders were called rainbows and grades 3-5 were called “Adventure Kids”. From then until

now, with ideas obtained from the Cornell Extension, we break into small groups and engage the older kids in seven week project groups such as: bicycle repair, chimes, wood, leather, crafts, games, cooking sign language, story-telling, puppets, drama, Scrapbooking and more. The purpose of Project Groups is to develop one-to-one relationships with the children in small group settings.

In 2000, we started Bible Clinics in which children sign up to receive a new Bible and attend an evening class in which they receive instruction on how to use it.

In the late 90’s, we changed the name to

Adventure Kids. In 2006, we changed the name back to “Jesus and Me”. The leadership meets together each month for prayer and discussion on new ideas for ministry. We also, visit the families of our children to encourage and uplift them and invite them to come on Wednesdays and Sundays to Sunday school and worship. Our hope is to see lives changed by the power of Jesus Christ.

The church is located at 140 Genesse St., in the City of Lockport. Contact them at (716) 434-1783 for more information.

Benefit forMichael Vogt

Saturday, June 4, 2011Wrights Corners Fire Hall

Michael Vogt is 13 years old. He lives in Newfane, NY with his mom Kathy, dad Mark, sister Holli and brothers, Matt and Mark. Mike is an 8th grader at Newfane Middle School. He has been sick since October 2009. He suffered from headaches, nausea, weakness, and weight loss which prevented him from attending school for most of 7th and 8th grade. Diagnosis of Arnold Chiari Malformation came in March of 2010. His cerebellum had slipped into the spinal column and caused compression of the spinal cord and obstruction of spinal fluid flow. Mike had his first surgery at Cleveland

Clinic in April 2010. His symptoms returned in September but his surgeon had left his practice. Mom and Dad had to find another neurosurgeon that specialized in pediatric Chiari and also redo surgeries. Their search led them to Boston’s Childrens Hospital. Dr. Scott offered Mike the best chance for a normal life with the least restrictions for his future. March 1st, 2011 Mike had his second surgery. Although there is no cure for Chiari, the hope is that surgery will prevent any further progression of neurologic symptoms or damage. Mike’s biggest wish is to be back on the wrestling mat when his doctor clears him for sports.

You can help make Mike’s wishes come true by attendinga pasta dinner and basket raffle to be held on

Saturday, June 4, 2011 at the Wrights Corners Fire Company from 2:00 till 8:00 p.m.

(Doors open at 1:00). Raffles, auctions and much more!

Any donations, large or small, would be greatly appreciated and can be accepted in the form of cash, checks, gift certificates or baskets for the basket auction. Monetary donations are being accepted at any First niagara Bank location or by Paypal at www.michaelsmiracle.org.
