GRADING SYSTEM GRADING SYSTEM
ADVANTAGES
• Minimize misclassification of students on the basis of marks.
• Eliminate unhealthy cut throat competition among high achievers.
• Reduce societal pressure and provide the learner with more flexibility.
• Lead to a better learning environment.
MINIMUM SA1-SA2 MARKSMINIMUM SA1-SA2 MARKS
• Mandatory for a student to appear in both SAs in IX and X
• In case of non-appearance due to illness, one more chance given upto 31st Oct in Class IX. For SA2, chance for improvement given within a period of 1 month from the date of declaration of result. In Class X, re-exam for EIOP students will be conducted in July.
• Students would have to obtain atleast 25% marks in the Summative Assessments (both the SA1 and SA2 taken together) to be eligible to qualify the exam (atleast 15 out of 60 marks) in Classes IX and X
• Total of 33% in each of the 5 scholastic subjects.
• Exemption for appearing SA for students participating in sports at national/international level subject to prior approval from Board.

• Total grade points earned by students to be calculated by adding grade points for all co-scholastic areas

VALUE BASED QUESTIONSVALUE BASED QUESTIONS
• Value based questions in the design of question papers in all major subjects in classes IX-XII w.e.f. academic session 2012-13.
• 5 percent weighting in each subject at the Summative Assessment level in Classes IX and X
• The questions will be for 3-4 marks in a question paper of 70-90 marks.
OPEN TEXT BASED OPEN TEXT BASED ASSESSMENTASSESSMENT
• Applicable to all the main subjects. • Part of Summative Assessment II to be held in
March, 2014. • Schools will be supplied with textual material in
few months before the commencement of Summative Assessment II.
• Textual material may be in the form of an article, a case study, a diagram, a concept/ mind map, a picture or a cartoon, problem/situation based on the concepts taught to the students during second term
• Extent of 15-20 percent in all the main subjects
• Text related to chosen concepts taken from the syllabi
• Questions of higher order thinking skills and some of which may be subjective, creative and open ended.
• Text as part of the question paper and thus will be available while answering the questions.
