What is a Reborn Doll; What does Reborning mean???

How the babies begin life... Each baby starts out as beautiful doll or kit waiting to be reborn. The dedication and time commitment in this rebirthing process gives you and your baby the most amazingly realistic skin-tones available; you can use custom and creative techniques or follow instructions such as the Excellence in Reborn Artistry™ 6 step layering process, to bring the most wonderful skin tone color to your baby Dolls skin.

The wonderful boy in this picture has been done with this 6 step layering process, while the girl has been done using a peaches and creams technique. The same colors were used, however the application techniques are very different. So that these twins come from the heart, yet have unique and different personalities which have evolved through their birthing process.


Realistic & Micro-Rooted Hair...... Custom Babies can have the most AMAZINGLY Realistic head of hair imaginable. The mohair used for these twins was selected with their look & style in mind. Hand Rooting & Sculpting your babies hair, is a very Time Consuming job, but you will see that the end result is well worth it. It leaves the most Amazingly, Beautiful & Realistic head of hair imaginable. There were many ways to root these babies hair, using slight angles and circular motions. And our boy has the no-muss, no fuss style for his ethnicity.


Lashes and more...... The twins above show you they have been enhanced with both upper and lower lashes, which provide them a great life-like appearance. He has hand applied eyebrows, where she has only a hint of the brow line.

Uniquely Designed, Custom Cloth Body & Options... These twins have been given different custom soft bodies; They have been weighted so that they have a very natural, healthy baby feel. We have worked to distribute her and his weight properly, from head to toe, with fine beads of soft baby fat pellets. They have premium stuffing in all the right places so that they have that wonderful and precious cuddly baby feeling.


Breathtakingly, Realistic Skin Tone, with custom Life-Like Hand applied Features... In order to make sure that the reborn babies coloring are as perfect as possible and very true to life, they have not only been merely color washed, they have been meticulously blended with hand applied colors inside and out with specially blended colors and pigments... There are many color mediums to choose from for Reborning Dolls; and the choice is yours to make.


Each one of the baby features has been hand-applied, highlighted, and/or shaded to give your reborn that natural healthy glow that has make him / her so very unique and one-of-a-kind (OOAK).

You may provided a heating pouch to keep the babies warm; or you may add in a heartbeat mechanism or breathing apparatus. These extra details are fun, and just add that little extra touch to the baby's Realism.

All the other Necessities... Your Reborn will need a manicure with a special treatment of sealers that leave them transparent, and very natural & realistic looking. Options are always available from French Tips, to Natural Tips, to glossing only. Their lips should be sealed to have a more natural & beautiful wet look to them.

To make what we call "Breathing babies" you would gently sculpt the inside the nose; but many artists will leave the vinyl intact and

An Interview with Jeannine.... What was your very first experience with reborning?

My first experience with reborning was in 2002, when I needed a model for my baby crochet afghans and outfits that I market on www.PatternsByJeannine.com and www.lulu.com/crochet . However, I have to say my experience was not a good one. I had purchased a reborn on eBay, and when the doll arrived, I realized that the doll sent to me was not the doll in the pictures of the auction. It was someone who decided to try to make money by completing very quickly a duplicate of the work in the pictures of the auction. I was very saddened and dismayed. But, on the positive side, it also made me realize that I could do the same type

of work much better, so it started me on my way to researching “how to reborn” a doll. I purchased another auction on ebay for instructions; and for $15 I received a one page bullet points list of things to do in order to reborn a doll; and another page of suppliers. Again, I was very disappointed with what I received, but I couldn’t give negative feedback, because I knew I would get it back in return. So instead, I decided to use my computer knowledge and ability to produce training documents; I was determined that I would produce a much better product, which was thousands of times more informative and be able to provide it at the same or less cost. So that’s how I got into Reborning and also instruction Books and eBooks. My first basic reborn instruction book was 50 pages long with over 100 pictures included and sold for $9.99 as an eBook. When did you realize you would make a career out of reborning? I was always tinkering with finding a business I could call my own. I had tried several types of businesses, but didn’t like the direct selling process. However with Reborning dolls and providing training to others, I seem to have a passion about it that rubs off on others; so it is really fun and easy for me. I have met so many wonderful artists and hobbyists all around the world with this activity; it is a great industry to be associated with. However, I still have a full time job working in the Technology Services industry, but I hope that this will eventually be my supplemental income job when I retire.


What is your favorite part of Reborning? My favorite part of Reborning is that it allows me to help others. A part of my income is used to support several educational funds for kids of single/parents to eventually go to college; and Reborning also allows me to donate a portion of my work to help other children with special events for their Birthday or Christmas. Also through my Reborning club and books, I am able to help other artists get their names and work promoted within the Reborning Industry; while they, in turn help others though our Tips and Techniques forum at www.rebornartistry.com. It’s a club where anyone can join to learn and share the art of Reborning.

And the best part of Reborning, is when I am able to create a reborn for a parent who has lost a loved one, or wishes a reborn doll to use as a remembrance of their child when they were young. When I can help someone through a sad time in their life and help to make them happy, it really warms my heart beyond the imagination. Those are the best parts of Reborning for me. What is your least favorite part of Reborning? I think that painted eyebrows are my least favorite part of reborning; so I avoid them at all costs. I prefer to micro root in eyelashes, where I feel I have much more control over my work. I will even root in eyelashes on very hard vinyl, by heating up the felting needle before the insertion of each lash, just to avoid having to paint on the lashes.


How are you inspired to come up with new ideas for your art? Many times my ideas are created from wanting something simpler to use; or because I purchased a product that turned out to be a waste of my time and money. My Favorite tools just happen to be the ones I’ve designed for Reborn specialty needs. My sculpted OOAK Mottling sponge is my favorite for creating that natural mottling look, and my favorite hand rooting hair tool is one I created from the leftover rubber parts of a pacifier. By the way, corks also work much better than the $10 to $15 dollar hair rooting tools out there; and they costs less than a dollar. Guess it’s time for a “Useful Reborning Tools for under a Buck ($1)” Book. ☺

At other times, I get a lot of questions from other artists and newcomers starting in this art form. Their questions give me food for thought and challenge me to help solve their problems. I love to help others succeed.


Do you have a favorite piece that you have produced thus far? My favorite Reborns are the ones created from the Dolls by Berenguer® Expressions Preemie line. The Soft Touch vinyl is so easy to work with, and the Reborns they create are just scrumptious. This Expressions Preemie Reborn Doll was done using pigment inks… She holds a special place in my heart.

Dolls by Berenguer® has reduced the price on these dolls, so they are now very economical to purchase and Reborn into a OOAK sweetie. They are also great for twins and triplets.


This Reborn doll was done with Chalks… She is featured in my book Learn the Most in the Excellence in Reborn Artistry™ Series

I saw someone working with chalks on the silicone vinyl dolls, and thought I would try my hand with it on the vinyl ones. Just adding a little adhesive to the mix will make them last and last. I love the way it turned out, especially on the fingers and palms of her hands. I even did her eye brows in the shaded chalks. This is a Dolls By Berenguer® Doll kit number DK106 – Closed eye preemie. The soft vinyl used in these kits are wonderful to work with when Reborning.


This special boy was done with acrylics… He is also featured in the book Learn the Most in the Excellence in Reborn Artistry™ Series. I love to create preemie twins. And when I reached my 300th reborn, I just happened to have three sets of these specialty preemie twins in the nursery.


What are your future goals concerning Reborning? I hope to continue my work in the production of Reborning Books and Movies, based upon the requests and needs of my customers. My newest book to be published this year will be Excellence in Reborn Artistry™ Case Study # 7 which will focus on Reborn Dolls Facial Features. When completed, I will have authored 5 basic and intermediate Reborning and painting books,10 Case Studies in the collection series, 10 soft body pattern books, and 3 introductory movies on CD.
