The Closing of the Cave In 1955, mold and plant life was noticedgrowing on the cave walls, which wasdangerous for the cave paintings. In1963, after several studies were done, itwas decided that the cave would beclosed to visitors. Once the visits to thecave had been cancelled, the causes ofthe changes were eliminated, and theoriginal climate was restored. TheLascaux cave art returned to the state itwas in on the day of its discovery. A lifesized model, Lascaux II was to beopened, so visitors could still experiencethe cave. It remains open today.By Shivang Mehta 8. Interpreting Cave PaintingsBy Shivang Mehta 9.
