General Overview

Mission

The mission of the Cave Hill Heritage Foundation is to:

Preserve the past for the future

Vision

The following vision statement is provided for the Cave Hill Heritage Foundation:

Restoration · Preservation · Education

The Cave Hill Heritage Foundation is devoted to preserving the past for the future by:

a. Restoring the monumental art and historical structures within the Cemetery

The Cave Hill Heritage Foundation restores a multitude of memorials each year on

private family lots where there is no family remaining. Emphasis is placed on memorials

to be restored with the following criteria in mind: risk mitigation, property aesthetics, and

historical value.

b. Preserving the arboretum setting

Each year, Cave Hill Cemetery loses nearly 50 trees due to age or disease related issues.

The Cave Hill Heritage Foundation raises funds to add new trees and plants to the

landscape, provide a horticultural experience to visitors and families, and act as an

advocate for the positive environmental impact of operations.

c. Providing educational enrichment opportunities for the community at-large

The Cave Hill Heritage Foundation provides tours and community outreach experiences

to engage students and adults in the collection and sharing of historical information about

the residents of Cave Hill Cemetery, as well as our state, local, and national history as it

relates to the Cemetery.

2019 Review of Performance

2019 Organizational Impact

• 561 total donors impacted the success of the Cave Hill Heritage Foundation.

• Installation of pollinator garden and fountain at Cave Hill apiary.

• Cave Hill apiary opened with first official honey processing.

• Student/Teacher curricular material for pollinators was written.

• Suffrage recognition project was completed with non-profit peers.

• The Satterwhite Monument restoration project was completed.

• The Rustic Shelter House restoration project was completed.

• Over 350 individual grave markers were restored, preserving family legacies.

• Many public tours and programs were sold-out for 2019.

• We maintained an overwhelming presence at the St. Matthews Farmers Market.

• Over 500 guests enjoyed a superb Cocktails on the Lawn event focusing on the theme: Cave

Hill Cemetery: The Story of the City of Louisville, with Stu Pollard.
