DIRECTION. Isaiah tells us something that we already know, and yet seem to forget every now and then. He tells us, essentially, that God is God and we are not. When we’re confused and troubled and can’t figure everything out,

it might be wise to recall Isaiah speaking on the Lord’s behalf and explaining that God—who is on a much more, well, Godly wavelength than we are—moves in ways we can’t even imagine. Saint Paul, by comparison, has everything figured out. Kind of. At least he understands his calling in life—to magnify Christ in everything he does. That should give all of us the direction we need. Jesus gives us direction, too, explaining to us once again in the parable of the workers in the vineyard that the last will be first, and the first, last.

Protecting Our Children ~ Our Lady of the Lake and the Diocese of Charleston are committed to the protection of children. HELP WANTED! Our Lady of the Lake wants to begin a new ministry that would be responsible for the washing (but not ironing – if you are quick getting it out of the dryer) of the altar servers’ robes. This would be the black cassocks and white surplices. This respon-sibility does not extend to items worn by the priest or the deacons. You could wash

these at home or in the Family Life Center. We think the washing/drying would be four times a year, but may be more frequently if wine is spilled on the surplices or the collars are especially soiled. These volunteers would be asked to check the closet in the Altar Servers’ Room for noticeably stained robes and to keep the clos-et in an orderly fashion e.g., Size 14 surplice over Size

HELP WANTED! Earlier in 2020, at the beginning of the COVID crisis, we had a short, but im-portant outreach program to parishioners. This telephone outreach program started as a friendly “hello,” but we also discovered that some of our parishioners had needs of food, medicine, and more frequent contact with the world. Our Lady of the Lake

wants to begin a new ministry that makes this a more permanent outreach program because of the good we knows this does, and it also builds fellowship. To get this started, we are looking for one or more project man-agers. From the incipient beginnings, we have an updat-ed contact list, and a series of scripts that can be used for different needs. But to turn this into a long-term minis-try, we need coordination and tracking to ensure there is follow-through and accountability. If you would like to be one of the parishioners making the phone calls or de-livering the meals, please stay tuned to this space as this ministry goes through the early planning phases. We will all need your help. Please contact [email protected] if you could be a project manager. Thanks!

Respect Life Ministry Now that the ministries are holding monthly meetings again (with guidelines), the Respect Life Ministry will once again meet in person. The next Ministry meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 5th at 6:00 pm in St. Andrew Hall. Rosary for Life will still be held either virtually or at Planned Parenthood EVERY other Saturday which is the

abortionist’s schedule. So for the month of September that means September 12th and September 26th. Please email us at [email protected] with any questions or to sign up for ZOOM.

We have uploaded Meditations for the Rosary in Times of Crisis, courtesy of director of the Family Life Office for the Diocese of Charleston. These are beautiful and include all four sets of mysteries. Click on the QR Code with your SmartPhone.

You do not need to be an active member of the Respect Life Ministry to be on our email list. If you want to be informed of upcoming activities, events, prayer novenas and prolife legislative alerts.

Please E-mail Maureen & Deacon Greg at [email protected] to join our list or with any questions regarding the Respect Life Ministry. For our full collection of resources and a schedule of activities and events, please visit https://ollchapin.org/respectlife. Meditations for the Rosary can also be found on the website.

The Purification Process

What is Purgatory? Does it exist? Does it matter? For the sake of our beloved family members who have passed, it is important for us to understand how the Church depicts our journey from earth to heaven. As professor and speaker Dr. Mark Miravalle explains, not only is the doctrine of

Purgatory true, and deeply rooted in Sacred Scripture and Tradition, but the practice of offering prayers and sacrifices for the souls of the dead is a critically important responsibility for every member of the Body of Christ—the family of the Church. Current CDs & Books can be found in the Vollkommer Bell Tower and the lobby in the Parish Offices Complex).

At the conclusion of the Recessional Hymn, we will kneel and pray ONE HAIL MARY, asking for Mary's intercession for an increase of Vocations to the Religious Life and to the Priesthood. Additionally, we will pray to St. Michael the Archangel asking for his protection. As our

Parish is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and as the Eucharist is the source and summit of our lives as Catholics, it is most appropriate for us to pause before we leave Church on Sunday (or a Daily Mass) to ask her intercession for an increase of Vocations to the Religious Life and to the Priesthood. Further, given the pandemic it is likewise appropriate that we ask for protection from our God-given defender, St. Michael the Archangel.

We would love to assist you in your faith journey through an exciting and deeply enriching process in the Catholic Church, called the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.).

The format of the 8am Sunday Mass has changed. Moving forward for the foreseea-ble future the 8AM Sunday Mass will be a "low" Mass with NO MUSIC. There are three reasons for this decision:

† Having no music at the 8am Sunday Mass will allow for those parishioners who are uncomfortable with singing at Mass during the Covid-19 pandemic to attend Mass;

† Having no music at this Mass will result in a shorter Mass time frame allowing for more time between the 8am and 10:30am Mass for volunteers to sanitize the church;

† Having no music will also allow more time for the Faith Formation program to meet between the 8am and 10:30am Sunday Masses;

† Finally, making the 8am Sunday Mass a "low" Mass will be a pastoral response to those parishioners who have requested a simpler Mass ~ especially those who have allergies to incense and those who appreciate a "quieter" celebration of the Holy Mass.

The Spiritual Book Club will meet Monday, October 5 at 12:30 in Saint Andrew Hall to discuss the first half of The Life You Save May Be Your Own, An American Pilgrimage by Paul Elie. We will read through chapter 7, and finish the book for our No-vember 2 meeting. All are welcome to attend. We

will be following the Parish social distancing guidelines. For further information please contact Linda Spencer at [email protected] or 803.732.3201.
